Depends what you want to use it for.
For a road atlas the Phillips range is excellent - about A3 sized and a couple of inches thick with excellent mapping - in my past life I was a cartographer so know a good map from a bad one. Mine is 10 years old and has yet to fall apart.
The ones you pick up in service stations or discount book shops for a couple of quid are generally poor as they remove a lot of detail to get the price down and the bindings are no more than a couple of staples.
Any fold out map of the whole of the UK is only any good for main routes.

I second Phillips Navigator Maps.
Sometimes you can pick them up in The Works Bookshops cheaply.
