Looks like these guys do only an MOT and don't do repair work so won't fail to drum up business! Great idea. Think this is their site? http://www.justmots.eu/

Doesn't 'feel' right.

they probably try to refer you to an independant 'recommended' garage round the corner that they probably also own.
does sound not quite right.

they say they make no charge for help replacing bulbs etc to help you through the test. maybe they make some extra on the parts?

I know my local garage does only MOT's for £42 and charges half for retest. When you think about it, that's raking them in £42 an hour near enough - so quite profitable in it's own. Although I must admit the £10 price and no retest fee makes me wonder how that can be worth their while, unless this is an attempt to draw people in and soon it will be £20-30.

Garages have to pay VOSA for 'x' amount of slots per month etc. So the £42 is not all profit at all. We charge £40, if wipers or bulbs are needed, we just replace them and charge for parts only. Unless its one of those dreaded headlight bulbs where said vehicle needs front of car removed to get to it, then we may charge a little labour! But majority are easy and don't take long at all.

No one is going to charge £10 for an MOT without there being a catch. MFI did "£10" kitchens and look what happened.
The licence, equipment and wages paid equate to more than that. Add in the fact that they are booking in the future, well:confused:
There will be someone waiting round the corner happily willing to fix all those failed cars.
Or maybe I'm just a cynic:confused: ;)

Now that MOT's are all computerised, a testing station can only book upto their maximum capacity (which will depend on the number of MOT bays they have).
i.e. gone are the days where 4 or 5 MOTs can be issued per hour based on one MOT bay.
I believe its about one test per hour now. There's no way any company can offer MOTs for £10 each and stay in business, without there being a catch somewhere.

Even if there is only one MOT bay - more than one test can be carried out at the same time, obviously by more than one tester, they would need to change the vehicle places at certain points for ie rolling road and brake testing and emissions etc. - but it can be done and is done.

Thats right, they can have say 3 cars being tested at the same time provided they have 3 approved testers. Each has to log on with his own card and the car cannot be signed of in less that 45mins.
Not entirely secure as it would still be possible for 1 mechanic to do 3 cars in the 45 mins if he had all three cards.
But then that would be illegal:rolleyes:      ;)
