Hi all,

I built and run the website TripCost.co.uk (http://www.tripcost.co.uk), it is free to use and will tell you how much you'll spend on fuel for any journey in any car.

It also has tips on how to drive more efficiently and functions as a full journey planner.

I'd love to hear what you all think of it, and hopefully it can help save everyone some money on future journeys.

Cheers
Matt Bearman

Cheers for the feedback, it's still in an early development stage, which is why I need these kind of responses.

I'll try to answer problems in order:

1 - can you tell me what you put in for your from and to locations?

2 - It's working ok for me in FF, from and to locations would be a great help, it's possible you guys have helped me find a town that causes it to hang :)

3 - that's an odd one, did you use the drop down list? as that should give you birmingham, west midlands, which is right.

Cheers
Matt

And the type ahead boxes in ie only list Brighton as being in cornwall - what about the CITY of Brighton in East Sussex?

Yeah it did the second time - I type too fast and use the tab buttons and then hit return the first time so the list never came up - but see my comments about Brighton

This time it hung again and didn't work in Firefox:
I typed from: Brighton - no suggestion box appeared
To: Birmingham but chose West Midlands in the suggestions.

Hang on calculating.

Went back and added , East Sussex to the end of Brighton and then it works ;)

Can't get the prompt box to show anything at all in Firefox when I type Brighton into the from field.

Did you know if you swap your ferrari enzo for an F430 spider, you could make considerable fuel savings - approx 25%?? Can you tell I'm bored?

I did not know that, but I do know how much it would cost me to take a Bugatti Veyron to Paris :D

But anyway, I've fixed the Brighton issue, Brighton, East Sussex now comes up on the suggestions list.

Thanks for all the feedback

I've just tried typing a place name, it gives a list of suggestions but there's no way of selecting one (Internet Explorer).

What version of Internet Explorer are you using? I found both the arrow keys and using the mouse works in both Internet Explorer 6 and 7, also what place names did you use?

Cheers

Sounds like a good idea. I would put BETA in the title bar and logo though until you know it works near enough perfect to let people know it's not the final product.

Yes I am, but not for personal gain. This is just a little project of mine, the adverts don't even cover the hosting costs, not to mention the amount of time I've put in so far and will do in future.

Version from within the last 2 years. Stroud and Gloucester were used.
I found that if I left it for a few minutes it sorted itself out.

I tried putting in a BMW 3 series E36 as car type and it then only listed Z3 and Z4 models, so something wrong there too.

It worked for me for a journey from Fordingbridge to Warrington, a journey I do regularly. The costs looked about right as well.

Its description as "The world's premier journey cost calculator" illustrates the low level of regulation is there is on claims that can be made on websites:cool::D .

Ah Alderholt.

The place for people who thought Fordingbridge would be too exciting.

at a very quick glance i couldnt find a 92 merc 190 nor a toyota estima. i notice you have the uk previa there but there are loads of different types with different engines etc: estima/ lucida/ emina. i think theyre worth adding cos they are fairly popular cars.

eta: oh, i get it- its an age-ist thing? :rotfl:

none of my previous cars (from the last 5 years) are on there! :o :D

Lol tried it with mine, my car, a 1997 Corsa Breeze wasn't listed, my postcode for near Worksop came up with an address in Wisconsin, and my destination, a postcode in Birmingham came up with Texas...a round trip of 948 miles :-)
