To save everyone clicking on the link above it's basically a transformation pack you can download for Windows XP that makes it look like Vista (themes, skins etc).

Just turn your PC off at random intervals to get the real Vista feel. :rotfl:

There's a lot of similar stuff to be found here (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showforum=34), not to mention another place (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=75768) to download that same pack from. There's a screenshot (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=146627) too!

Longhorn was kinda scrapped - the development if the system was taking to long, so they canned loads of the proposed parts of longhorn and then created Vista!

This is awful, computer about stops running, really slows down on a 2.8ghz P4 with 1gb of ram.

My advice, leave alone!

All your critising windows, I bet 99% of you are using windows, and im pretty certain none of you could do any better. Microsoft suck, yeah, but its about the best we got.

Have you ever tried using a Mac? Or a linux box? There are alternatives, you just have to go out and look for them! :D

Yeah we have several macs at work, mainly for testing the website, as they never get used for anything else as they are so un user friendly, incompatible software/hardware etc. Out servers all use linux, which again, isnt as user friendly. We get just as many problems with the macs as we do with the windows machines.

Just my 2 cents.

And I'm adding my two cents to it. What incompatible software? Specialist software may be hard to find but you can get everything on a Mac, I use MS Office and iTunes is far better to Windows Media Player. It does everything I need it to do. I'm no Mac freak, I use PCs and Mac equally well (or equally badly!) and it's just a matter of getting used to it. If you're really sick of Windows, you have to look out for it. I've always found Linux harder to use, that's true but I was just suggesting alternatives. :D

I've used MAC and I think it's okay - depending what you want to do. Their really good for photo editing, design and other various types of media production - much better than Windows - although the fact that quite a lot of softwares and hardwares are incompatiable with it is rather tedious. For a simple home computer it's best to stick to Windows - it does almost everything in a rather in-between and average sort of way.

I wouldn't recommend downloading that skin pack unless your really really dying to see the next Windows - as it will swallow all your processor and RAM usage into modifying almost everything for the new "look". Stick to XP - won't be long before Vista comes out - I'll bet it'll be priced at way over £200 and it's gaurenteed to have a lot of teething problems.
Reading an article recently that the minimum PC requirements to operate Windows Vista will also be sky high, something around P4, 3.2GHz, 1GB ram not to mention high graphics card/sound card/video card requirements etc.
