Feeling is, they will only send you the razor, then you have to buy the blades, which is where they make their money on.

I dont think this a legit offer anyway, I have been on their website and there is no mention of any kind of offer, of any kind.

Elivs Bloggs. i clicked your link, very interesting but Big brother as all around us anyway, i dont think it makes any difference.

If Big B. wants to know our shopping habbits paying or not I think they have many other ways of finding this info out, if they do not already have this.

Not good for privacy and what you would call human rights, but technology has and is developing, there is no real way of stopping such things happening, just to get on with it and and say 'Cheese"

They have a big sign up in Asda saying "SMILE, YOU'RE ON CAMERA" over the blades. The chip in the box is supposed to trigger the camera on the shelf. The camera's not built into the box so it can't take your pic in the bathroom. It's to stop shoplifters as razorblades are one of the most shoplifted items in the UK.

Takes a long time to get through the questions and your name and address bit but you will get there eventually.

The boycottgillete website.... I couldn't see what the problem is with having a camera view you when you purchase your goods. Check the beef aisle or the booze aisle in any supermarket for cameras.

The chips debate makes me laugh, I work within industry that is looking at placing chips into consumer products, to be honest the debate could be endless with:

Whos knows what I buy, how much of and when..? (oooohh panic panic)

The chips are solely designed to imrove the speed of product movement within the supply chain (I.e getting the products from the manufacture to the product location in store) the idea being that as there is a significant cost (Both logistical and watsage!!) associated to transportation then any reduction would make room for savings to potentially be passed on to the consumer. (At the very least delay price rises)

The industry struggles to get these points across because of the paranoid consumer but a final thought for those of you who have clubcarrds and any other loyalty card.... Exactly what do you think they do with the data available from that ...? They link your toilet roll purchases to the time of the month to see when your most skint and any other form of random analysis and guess what they sell that data back to the manufacturers at a premium...

The bad boys in all of this are the Tesco, Sainsbury Asda's driving rises in profits at the cost of manufacturers not the actual manufacturers who in placing chips in products make a more efficient supply and possibly get a secondary benefit of preventing thieving scum who also push the prices up for the rest of us.

They had a promotion on Sky Active a while ago for a free Gillette razor, it took a while to come but there was definetly at least one blade with it, possibly two.

Razors are like printers and games consoles. Really.
The refills (ink/blades/games) are where they make the money - often the razor/printer/console is sold at cost or even a loss just you get you tied in to the product.

Seems to me that people have a concern with these chips (Not sure that the camera thing has ever been validated in the UK or any other place for that matter) and just to add to my last thoughts within this thread maybe you should check out:

This company has been using them for years and before you jump with cries of privacy scandals then I reiterate again that it is just a method of increasing efficiency although I wish they would use it to stop theiving bas@ards and if you look further instead of beating up a company that is footing the bill for studies into technological advances for the benefit of the consumer then you will see that they are not alone ....??

Maybe a little search on google might help either calm your fears or really make you paranoid... oooohhhh

Yes very daft, I don't use any either - I don't have an upleasant odour so I don't see the need to use deodorant.

Actually imho most people don't smell bad if they shower regularly. Deodorants upset the bacterial balance of the skin and cause people to smell, so they are products that create the problem they are supposed to prevent. A self-selling product you could say, what a money spinner!

It definately said they'd despatch the razor within 60 days. I've recevied stuff from them before and it usually arrives after you've forgotten about it!! To be honest the only reason I remember this is because I saw the post otherwise I would have forgotten completely.

Never thought I'd be posting about razor blades, but yes, the Mach 3 razor does take the Mach 3 Turbo blades, and vice versa! Similarly, the vibrating Mach 3 (whose name escapes me!) also just takes the plain Mach 3 blades! I've been using the M3 for ages and thought that the plain blades were far better than the other flashy M3 blades to be honest!

I did the survey a few minutes before making this post (12th Jan 2006)

As in reagrds to the m3 razor taking mach3 turbo blades, I'm not too sure on that. Maybe someone else can shed some light on it???

mine arrived today too. I think I entered my details end december/early Jan; too long ago to remember; had totally forgotten. Just disposable, but might be useful at some point. Taken to using Lidl rasor and blades since; cheap and great. Only 2.49 for 20.

Yes, a Razor came today but it's a Sensor 3 Disposable, not the battery type. Just a 3 blade version with one blade attached. Not bad for nothing, I suppose.

For some strange reason I received another free razor in the post today even though I had only filled in the questionnaire once.

Got the Mach3 Turbo a few days back & today received the Nitro battery powered razor (battery included). Not that I'm complaining or anything :D

(I'm not bitter just because I got a crap razor)

I use the old style mach3 anyway so its kind of a free upgrade for me, even though the 'nitro' looks a bit like a gimic.

We all know they make the money on the blades, but its not against the law for a company to make money :p I would much rather use my mach3 than bic disposables even though it may work out cheaper. I have never cut myself with the mach3 either.

Got the Nitro as well. Only one blade though even though it says two cartridges include on the box.

Will give it a go and if I like it look for some cheap blades, Ebay seems the place to go. I presume many of the blades on Ebay are fake - are they as good or at least nearly as good as the real thing? Anyone tried the Ebay blades?
