Take her, and if they tell you its viral, then fine. If it is worse, then she will be in the right place to be treated.
Go on your instincts

I'm no expert on children but just wonder if she might also have an inner ear infection. That could explain why she's a bit unsteady. You're doing the right thing in getting her checked out. Hope she feels much better very quickly.
Ditto what the others said, call NHS Direct as they are very good. I have a 27 month old and I know from experience that when they get viral type things it is very dramatic and they go all lethargic, floppy and clingy but kids usually recover from these things very quickly. Best get it checked though.

This screams ear infection to me. Back to the GP, or Casualty if you're concerned she's deteriorating. DO NOT be fobbed off.

I completely agree that this sounds very much like an ear infection. Our daughter tends to get them about every 4 weeks & these are the kind of symtoms she gets. Has your daughter been pulling at her ear as this is another sign sometimes?
I'd definetely go back to GP as if it does prove to be an ear infection they are horrendously painful for the child, I used to have them constantly as a child. We always know when our daughter has them as her temperature gets up to 40-41 degrees & she once had to be hospitalised because of this. On the plus side a good dose of antibiotics clears up even a bad infection quickly.
Hope your little one feels better soon.

Doctors or Doctor on Call or whatever you have there.
Been there far too many times to feel that I may be wasting their time. That is what they are paid for.
Scare story alert, my friend lost her LO a few weeks ago to a 'wee virus'. Trust your motherly instincts.

Poor love. I didn't have to keep Amoxycillin in the fridge I don't think. The alternate Calpol/Nurofen thing works wonders though - I use this method everytime mine have a temp and it never fails to bring it down.
Hope she's feeling better soon.

NHS 24 told me I could use nurofen and calpol, and stagger the dose to help relieve DD's symtpoms better and keep the temperature benefit regular, so for example first dose of calpol followed by nurofen 2 hours later, then calpol 2 hours after that, rather than giving her both doses at the same time. Of course you still need to be super careful about not giving her too much in any 24 hour period etc., but if she is suffering then alleviating her symptoms till the antibiotics kick in is probably the best you can do for her.

If she has a temperature, don't aim a fan at her. Thats my only advice. My nephew is 1 and he had a ridiculously high temp/ear infection, so much that my SIL took him to the hospital (out of hours doctors) and they said NEVER blow a fan on them as it confuses the bodies temperature and doesnt actually cool them down.

If a child has a fever then they should be sponged down with a sponge soaked with tepid water. Never keep them wrapped up to 'burn' the fever off as an adult with a temperature might do, as overheating can have deadly consequences for little kids and babies.

Hi
Try and time your Calpol / Nurofen doses so that you give the nurofen just before bed time. It lasts longer and will help through the night.
My little boy got alot of ear infections with very high temperatures. He had grommits fitted when he was three and we've had no problems since.
yes amoxycillian does have to stay in the fridge - be wary though that if you have been given the yellow looking one it contains additives(to colour it) that can cause hyperactivity - only boots do it without the colourant.
My son has antibiotics everyday prophalactic ones but we end up having amoxycillian aswell about every two months for regular infections - so i know a thing or two about antibiotics.

Antibiotics in the fridge (it's to kill any bacteria that may be introduced by the water, air or the syringe. I learned that at college :D
Calpol gives DS2 the runs so we use the cheapo chemist stuff. Or rather, we usually use 6+, prescribed by a doctor with the dosage as he is a little brat at taking anything. Wrapped in a towel, syringe, straddling him and he still fights or makes himself sick.
And your not alone with the dire-rear, DS2 has had it all weekend too.

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1009335#post1009335)) so this post/thread has been moved to the Health board, where it should get more replies. Has she been anywhere near anyone with a cold sore recently?
Even if she hasn't, the cold sore herpese virus is such an indestructible little bu&&er that it can be picked up almost anywhere after someone with a cold sore has passed.
If there are lesions in her mouth, it could easily be a primary herpetic infection. The first time kids get exposed to the cold sore virus can make the inside of the mouth very sore indeed.
If the soreness of the mouth seems to be the main thing, I would pop her to a dentist (Drs are pretty rubbish inside the mouth).
With all viral things - and infections generally, keeping up the fluids is more important than a day or two without food. Get her to drink plenty of water.
BUT - get advice from a Dr ASAP if you are worried, or a dentist if the problems are in the mouth.

dear OP, I'm sorry but if I had a sick child i would not be on here posting, I'd be down to the doctors, hospital or whatever service that is nearest to you.
Don't feel yopu are wasting anyones time, better to be safe then have things get worse later.
Hope things are better today.

Can I just add you mentioned that you thought she had thrush which with the antibiotics will get worse if not treated
The thrush will cause a bad bum too as well as a horrible mouth
MOST IMPORTANT THOUGH
please nag the doctors if they are treating LO for thrush you are breast feeding and MUST also be treated even if you are not symptomatic
otherwise you wise pass it back and forth to each other
please please please PM me if you want somemore info about BF and thrush
I can give you info to give to your GP about treatment for you both
GPs often forget to treat bf mums x

Aww Izzy, you have my sympathy. DS2 still has the 'dire-rear', but atleast he is eating... after a fuss because he wants chocolate. Right now all I am giving him is fiber and carbohydrate foods. Wholemeal bread sandwiches and toast, oat crackers, potatoes rice and the like, and he is not happy. He wants milk! And he can't go back to nursery till he has been free of the diareaha for 48 hours.
Bear with it, she will get well soon and eat you out of house and home.
No matter what she is eating so long as she is eating. Don't worry if it's not a hot meal, it's still food. I have reaccurent ear infections myself and I know how much they hurt! Your jaw is sore, and it is actually hard to chew if the ear is swollen, feels like my jaw is popping in and out, it's horrid. So offer her easy to chew snacks and don't worry too much.

thanks for your words of comfort they really do help i think its the feeling as if you are the only one with a fuss pot i put her in her highchair today (she had slept from 12 till 3 ) hoping that she would be hungry i put chicken and grated cheese on the tray and a ff she ate a little whilst i was cleaning the microwave but as soon as i sat near her she started to feed the dog and look at me so i just ignored her whilst biting my tongue i so hope that this is just a phase
