View Full Version : Drop half a stone for Christmas!

I am aiming to lose half a stone for Christmas, would anyone like to join me?

I use this site

http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/account/index.php

You set up your own target by inputting weight, height, how active your lifestyle is, and any medical conditions. Then each day you keep a food diary by inputting what you eat, and also an activity log. The site works out your calories for input (food) and output (activity). The idea is that you keep the input between 500 and 1000 cals below the output, but without dropping below the minimum food cals set by the site for your lifestyle etc.

Of course you can use any method you like....

If you're interested sign up here and lets help each other :T

Weigh yourself now, then we can have a weigh-in on Monday 8th Dec to see how we are all doing........... (not our actual weights, just our losses to date!)

Hi Dragon and welcome!

Well, my sis swears by drinking at least 2 litres of water a day - she says it gets rid of fluid retention round her ankles.

Dunno if it works, but water is good anyway, so worth a go - I always up my fluid intake when I'm trying to lose weight coz it helps to stop me feeling hungry

I don't have fluid retention as such, just the damage in the ankle is not helped any by the excess weight (vast amounts of excess weight ), but yes filling up on low calorie/no calorie stuff is good.

For lunch sometimes I will make up a pint of stock, add a measured amount of frozen peas/sweetcorn and a bundle of thread noodles (broken up), a very warming, filling soup for not many calories (and I wonder why I have difficulty getting over a thousand calories a day! )

Hmmmm.... I don't understand the logic of this, but my target cals are 1100 calories a day, and apparently I shouldn't go below this because it stops you losing weight. This is bad news for me because I am terrible for missing meals. I usually don't feel hungry until tea-time, when I'm suddenly starving....

But I find that if I have breakfast and lunch of 200 cals, evening meal of about 300-400, that leaves me with a few spare cals for fruit/snacks/the odd glass of wine... so I end up eating more, and losing weight

As I say, I don't understand the logic, but it does work for me.

Also logging everything on the PC works for me, but then I spend most of my day on the laptop....

EDIT... Dragon, I just saw that your target daily cals are 2400! OMG you must have an active lifestyle! I don't burn anywhere near that (but it is the hibernation season!) - looks like you are going to have to aim to consume MORE calories!!

I'm in :) Anything for keeping me motivated. :)

The Dragon, I gained weight during an illness, before that I was very physically active: the extra weight REALLY shows up where you've damaged yourself and didn't notice how bad before, so I really understand.

If you eat too little your metabolism will slow, and your bod will try to conserve energy :)

Welcome Lostinrates and Frivolous-Fay!

I gained weight during a long illness which kept me bed bound most of the time, and then found I couldn't lose it because I am so inactive - on the plus side, even little activities like loading the washing machine are now 'extra' for me.... so it isn't difficult for me to find ways of increasing my output calories a bit, and logging my activity keeps me motivated to keep getting up and moving about - so double bonus!

But I HAVE to lose weight now, coz my younger sister who has always been about 4 stone heavier than me since we were teenagers, has lost loads of weight, now weighs less than me for the first time ever, and looks fantastic!!! Can't be having that, mate!! (sisterly rivalry, its a great motivator!)

This is bad news for me because I am terrible for missing meals. I usually don't feel hungry until tea-time, when I'm suddenly starving....

My problem was that the Doctors didn't look at my medication and so just kept telling me to cut down my food, when I got to below 500 kcals a day (on a good day I might add! some days all I did was drink water), Dr Dragon came with me to the doctors, first thing "you need to lose weight, cut down your food", I burst into tears (very unlike me!) and they told me to keep a food diary, which I did, and the doctor came back with "You're not eating enough" - I won't tell you what Dr Dragon said at that point :rotfl:, but I had been telling them for two years I couldn't cut down any more! So for me getting over a decent amount of calories is hard.

But I find that if I have breakfast and lunch of 200 cals, evening meal of about 300-400, that leaves me with a few spare cals for fruit/snacks/the odd glass of wine... so I end up eating more, and losing weight

If you don't eat enough your body goes into starvation mode I understand and therefore grabs onto every kcal 'cos it doesn't know when it will get any more!

Also logging everything on the PC works for me, but then I spend most of my day on the laptop....

Likewise, re the being on the PC and logging, I looked at what I was eating last week and on a good day (a day when I had some alcohol) I had 600 cals

EDIT... Dragon, I just saw that your target daily cals are 2400! OMG you must have an active lifestyle! I don't burn anywhere near that (but it is the hibernation season!) - looks like you are going to have to aim to consume MORE calories!!

Um no :o, just seriously porky! I weighed in yesterday morning at 21 stone and 2 pounds, this morning (no flipping medication for 24 hours) I was 20 stone 11.5 pounds - so I am 4.5 pounds of my way to the goal of half a stone already :rotfl:, I can barely walk so this is what I am allowed for a very sedentary lifestyle, if I was active I would probably be allowed over 3,000 :eek::eek:

I gained all the weight after the road smash that made me disabled, before that I was seriously active (ran everyday, swam, volley ball, horse riding, you name it!)

:mad::mad: to sister being slimmer than you now, but :D:D:D for giving you the kick up the 'arris to do something about it!

Seems like three of us have similar reasons for being overweight. The Dragon, I am in simialr sitution eating very few calories. Oh well onwards and upwards, eh? I get very depressed (I have all my old 'thin' g been vrweight clothes and despite having been overwight for a few years now I really get very depressed about the situation, coupled with ill health and pain its all very depressing). Sounds like Mr Lostinrates and Mr The Dragon would get on wll: min has refereeed Drs appointmnts too :);)

BTW I have horses, not riding ATM (too broken ;) and heavy) but they do give me some limited exercise and fresh air.

Dealing with the weight in little chunks with a goal date is a good idea.

Right, off to go and do th horses now, :)

Dr Dragon is a great one to have on your side when dealing with officials of any nature! Because of my pain I tend to panic easily (was REALLY panicking when I saw the news about "Getting virtually everyone on benefits into a job or stop paying them!", Dr Dragon read it differently and was trying to calm me down!)

Ooh too horses! Lucky person!

Do you guys like bananas? A smoothy made with one medium banana whizzed up in a blender with half pint semi skimmed milk and a couple of ice-cubes is worth 260 cals.

Just thought if you have been on low cals it might take a while to re-educate your palate - it might be more convenient to have a 260 cal smoothy, than eat an extra 260 cal meal?

On the subject of meals - coop have a special offer of two veggie tandoori ready meals for £5. They have 225 cals each and are very nice. I think there is a lot of oil in them though, so I'm going to have a look at the ingredients tomorrow and see if I can make a healthier version (I don't cook much but if Rodger the Lodger chops the veggies for me, and lifts the pan off the stove ate the end, I should manage it - and increase my activity cals at the same time :D)

Good morning playmates!

Have you had breakfast? If not, go and eat something now! :A

I have to say that although I know B'fast is the most important meal of the day, it is my biggest bugbear. I have never wanted breakfast, I even used to go to school without breakfast and not eat till lunch - not because it wasn't offered, but I just couldn't face it.

So I am making an extra special effort with this meal, because when i DO eat breakfast, I DO lose weight.....

Sorry, I should have given my story, how rude :D

I've had arthritis in my big toe for about 2 years now and it's stopped me doing step, aerobics, and made me cut back a lot on my walking. If I could I'd be walking to work (40 minutes each way) but I have to cycle instead, and it's not enough! I'm at least a stone and a half over where I'd like to be.

I'm getting my toe operated on (and hopefully fixed!) on the 23rd, so obviously it would be helpful to be slightly lighter for that, as a) it's a general anaesthetic and I need to be fit, and b) I'll be semi-immobile over Christmas and for at least 3 weeks so I need to compensate for the weight I won't lose then!! :D

i just want to wish you all a huge amount of luck and will power and health,
and hope it all goes well for you,
ive had cfs/ME for 5 years now, and it seriously put a stop to my activity,
i used to walk for miles ride several times a day, had a womens 6 pack, and never sat down, now i hardly do much, not by choice,
i still have one of my horses, and she has kept me going, if i didn't have her i don't know wha i would have done, cant ride very often etc, but keeps me going, and when i manage to ride, it is a wonderful freedom.
i drink between 2/3 litres of water a day, have done for 9 years now,
thats at least 8 glasses of water a day, its easy to drink that amount when you get into the habit.
i swapped hard cheese for feta and cottage,
and use good olive oil in my cooking,
i will look into the diet link when i get a chance, really i just thought it was great that you can all support each other etc,
GOOD LUCK

Afternoon!

I faild on breakfast, on the first day. (Long story involving dogs needing to go out about a dozen times through the night and me having an appt this morning...it was breakfast or makeup, make up won).

lunch (too late) was yummy though, I grilled a piece of bacon and crumbled it ovr some steamed brussels spouts and I had a couple of spoons of vegetable spoon left from last night which served as a sort of light sauce.

To make sure breakfast doesn't get abandoned tomorrow I'll be organising it before bed tonight.

Also, my car is in the garage so I'm walking two miles tonight whether I want to or not. :)

(I also didn't get on the scales this morning, lateness combined with fear.)

Hi Breezerocks, thanks for the encouragement - feel free to join us if you need to / feel up to it.

Well done for eating Brekkies Dragon! Sounds like the scales are heading in the right direction :D

I've had my breakfast, yippee, btter start to the day today. And also, in spirit of sticking to good routie I have to be somewhere else at lunch time, so I'm taking lunch with me. :) And I think I might take a flask of herbal tea too. :)

AND I give a huge thumbs up to the water filter. I am really sensitive to taste, (weirdly I can tell which type of bottled water I'm drinking by the taste) and our tap water is less than inspiring, but the filter water was just fine. I'm more impressed than I thought I would be.

Have a good day!

Breakfast? Check!
Extra drinks? Check!

Lunch? Not yet, as I was a bit late with breakfast, but I have two ryvitas with dairylea and an apple waiting for me (194 cals). Good for me, because if I eat brekkie, I normally skip lunch :o

My grand-daughter is coming over tonight, to stay from a long weekend, going back Monday. That will make it harder because she is ALWAYS hungry!! I'll have to stock up on crisps, snack bars, extra fruit and other stuff that she can munch on in between meals ... and send anything uneaten back with her....

Hi everyone, I have just signed up. I would love to lose 12 lbs but 6lbs by the 24th would mean I could do up my party trousers!

They have put my target calories as 1700 which I think is much too high for my sedentary lifestyle. Thing is my BMI is ok but all my weight is around my middle. I will check some of the things I entered to see if I made a mistake.

Hi Lolly, how much weight do you want to lose overall (if you don't mind me asking!), Calorie Count put mine at 2,450 I am seriously sedentary (can't walk without crutches and even then only about 100 yards or so before stopping!), the thing is I have 10 stone to lose and the more you have to lose the more calories they give you - and then as you lose weight they gradually diminish it - it is a way of sloooowly retraining yourself to the right amount of food.

Oh and welcome aboard :o - sorry should really have said that first!

Actually, she is the second of six  so I have each of them on their own every so often to give them some quality one-to-one time. This weekend is her turn ;)

Lolly, welcome! Re the calorie allowance, what I would say is - give it a go just till Christmas and see what happens.

I have found that the main thing, for me, is to religiously record ALL food intake, and ALL activity, and to maintain at least a 500 cal difference between the two, but not to drop below the recommended baseline calorie intake.

It isn't helpful to compare individual's recommended calorie target, because each individual is different, so what is too much for one person is not enough for another.... I only have about 1.5 stone to lose, so my calorie allowance is not as much as Dragon's, and is also lower than yours - but I am postmenopausal and short, which also affects my calorie allowance.

But I CAN tell you that I also have a VERY sedentary lifestyle, owing to health problems - and this is working for me - I am losing weight :D:D:D

PS.... remember to DRINK, folks !!!

Hi Lolly, how much weight do you want to lose overall (if you don't mind me asking!),

I only have a stone and a half to lose now but I have plateaued (if thats a word). If I lose 6lbs I can get into last winter's trousers, if I lose a stone I can get into last year's dresses and losing the last half stone would just make me very happy!

I checked what I had put in and I was down for weight maintenance not weight loss, so now my calories have been reduced to 1340 per day which sounds ok.

I am sedentary through laziness - I don't have any real medical problems except an arthritic hip and I do try to go to a water aerobics class. My main problem is that I crave salty things like crisps, olives etc and I nibble all day long which is not good for my high blood pressure. In fact I would prefer to have just one meal a day and then just graze on fruit and crisps for the rest of the time.

I am going to be sensible though and have 3 meals a day, its just the evenings when I watch TV that are the problem. I weigh myself every day and had withdrawal symptons when my scales broke. Sad or what? I will enjoy the discipline of entering all my food and in fact I ate less this evening because I knew I had to enter it.

Thanks The Dragon and LazyDaisyfor your welcome

Give it a chance, its only a couple of days.

Welcome Lolly.....do you think doing somthing with your hands would help hile watching tv? Knitting, ironing, even doodling? Maybe try brushing your teeth before sitting down too? Everything tastes ghastly after that so might be a good incentive. :)

OK, got breakfast in, I had (bought) apple puree with blueberries. :D

Hi Lolly, yes nibbling through the evening is my downfall - but having to log everything does curb the appetite! What I do, now, is calculate my calories so that I have a hundred or so left over, which gives me a bag of mini ryvitas, or some carrot battons, or something like that, to munch in the evening. Even cutting an apple up into slices helps, because I can eat an apple in a few bites and its gone, whereas cutting it up first makes it last longer and I enjoy it more.

Lostinrates - well done for eating breakfast! That's a great start to the day!

Dragon - you are doing so well keeping above 1000 calories - keep up the good work and you'll soon be at your target allowance!

Fay, you okay? how are you doing?

Aw heck, I just saw some photos of myself. Can I join in? Do you think it's still possible to lose half a stone for Christmas? That's just over 2lb per week!!

I'm 5.2 and probably just over 12stone at the minute (have been putting off the dreaded weigh in). I've been heavier (up on 13 stone) and lighter (10.5 stone) and lighter is much much nicer. I'm 40 in 2010 and really really want to be slim.

I've been using weightlossresources for years but hardly ever log in these days. It has been really busy at work and I've also got a cold and have been using these as excuses not to exercise properly - when I'm 'at myself' I go to the gym at least 4 times a week but have slacked off this past fortnight. I also need to start walking again - it's good for me in lots of ways.

I am officially back on the wagon if you'll have me :)

Don't see why not :) ;)

I seem to have been dieting for ever ;( i think changing your modes of support, and reenthusising about the whole thing is helpful...as long as its part of the same journey, not yo-yoing. :)

Well to be fair I have been sort of staying on the road albeit not exactly on the wagon :) Until two weeks ago I was keeping up with the gym about 3 times a week which was ok since Oct-Dec is our crazy time at work, and had been finding reasons to walk more.

I also made a decision over the summer to eat only healthy (ie good for me) food and I have pretty much stuck with that. I gave up chocolate and cheese except as part of a meal (I'm veggie and was inclined to snack on cheese). I also stopped buying butter and have been eating a lot more seeds/nuts and pulses etc. So eating healthily by and large just too much :o and have been overindulging with the wine - I don't ever drink a lot but if you have a glass nearly every night the calories add up! So I have decided until my work Xmas do on the 23rd I am off alcohol. God knows it is not good for me in any way, just empty calories!

All of this means I haven't really gained much weight over the busy period (maybe a lb or so) but I really need to lose some and I haven't done that either. I'd been thinking new year resolutions but it would be great to get a jump on it!

Just read through all of your info, sounds like you're all doing really well, let's hope I can follow the good examples.

FWIW I give up alcohol every year between New year and the end of march. I'm not a heavy drinker, (even less now, I would in the past, bar my rest, have a small glass of wine most evenings, now two evenings a week and possibly a lunh at the weekend) but we do socialise a lot in the festive season-and summer, it seems those three months are easier to let the liver have a good break. :)

I didn't have breakfast this morning (sorry!), but I was going to be walking around a supermarket and I know that if I eat before I walk that distance I will be physically sick

I took Dr Dragon to the local pub for lunch and was very good! I had a jacket potato with home made coleslaw and a side salad and I didn't have any wine I stuck on soda water (with just a drip or two of cordial in it - blackcurrant that turned it faintly pink!), I tried the scales again this morning and I thought for a second it was going to drop to the half pound off bit .... but noooooo it stayed at 4.5 pounds off this week so far

With having had the soda water though I am two pints down of my four pints to drink!

Wow 4.5lbs, I'd be pleased to lose than in a month, well done!!

I have managed to steer clear of the wine tonight (day 1 yay!) and have eaten reasonably sensibly - three bean chilli with a wrap and a tbsp of guacamole. Was very tasty too. Just had some porridge for supper. Still feeling a bit chesty and congested but hoping to make the gym tomorrow even if I only do some weights.

If I could be somewhere near my goal weight by end of summer I'd be delighted! Goal is prob around 10st!

PS gonna weigh myself in the morning!

Welcome BelfastGirl! Do have a look at caloriecount.com it is very good!

Dragon, don't do yourself down! you are doing so amazingly well! 4.5lbs this week! Forget about how much you'd like to lose in the longer term, and just focus on losing half a stone for christmas - you are going great guns! (I am going on holiday in Feb, so I'll be on another half stone challenge after christmas.... those half stones WILL add up ;))

Well, I am chugging a bit at the moment - I was doing fine at the start of the week and am still down on the week, but only just maintaining the past two days - mainly cos my G'daughter is constantly needing feeding, and I tend to have a bit with her to be sociable :o Still, I'm pleased, because at least the calorie counting is keeping me on track - otherwise I would have really fallen off the wagon!

Keep up the good work folks! See you tomorrow (just wanna get my last drink in before bedtime...)

Okay well I did the dreaded weigh in this morning and I have gained 2lbs in the last month - now at 12.2. Considering the month I've just had I'm not feeling too bad about this. But this is where it all starts again. I'm not going to the gym, my chest and throat are still quite bad, but it's a lovely sunny day here so I am going for a good walk, I'm aiming for an hour all in. And I have nice healthy food in. I reckon I can be down to about 11.10 by Christmas with a bit of hard work. this would leave me overweight rather than obese :D Fingers crossed!

Two days to go, Girls! We can do it !!!

Have you eaten breakfast today?

Belfast Girl - you do right to avoid the gym, your immune system will be weak at the moment. Even two miles at a slow pace on flat even ground burn almost 190 calories. In the summer months when I'm weller, I walk to a local shop, which is just about a mile away, have a rest, and then walk back. I don't do it every day, but a few times a week, and it really makes a difference.

Catch you all later x

Good Morning Girls! One day left to weigh in! Keep counting them calories!

I've just had an apple for breakfast today, coz I promised GD2 that I'd take her to one of those 'all you can eat' chinese buffet restaurants this afternoon, so I think I need to save up my calories today!

Might even try and persuade her to give me a hand to clear out the spare room... which should earn me some extra calories!

If you go out today, keep well wrapped up, it is VERY COLD out there!!!

Well Girls, it's Monday....

I have lost 2 lbs - which I'm pleased about as I've maintained over the weekend, and without calorie counting, I could so easily have undone all my good work to date.

My problem now is that I've reached my 'sticking point' , it is really hard to break down through this level, so this week will be a real challenge for me.

BUT I AM TELLING MYSELF I CAN DO IT :D

How are you all doing?

belfastgirl23
08-12-2008, 11:07 AM
Well done on the 2lbs LD!!

Not going so good here, my sniffle has exploded into a full blown cold with sneezing, runny nose and particularly coughing! Which has meant I've hardly got out at all over the last couple of days. I'm hoping if I take it easy it'll go over faster. At least I was able to take today off work, that's the only saving grace, but I can't stay off tomorrow as well. I am eating a bit more than usual but not a load more. I'm guessing maintenance at the minute.

Hope everyone else is doing better.

Aghh. I had a busy weekend, including social things. Did okish...nothing wicked, no canapes but Sunday was a meal. Disaster. You know how it is when you ar rally being PUSHED food. I was backed into that very uncomfortable corner of ,'well, uh, I'm dieting'. I think most people have assumed I've just accepted things how they are so this then turned into a huge discussion of my health and how I shouldn't feel down or unsexy (I dom't feel unsexy, DH is great at keeping me feling loved, but I feel unattractiv to myself). This has infact had the opposite reacftion it was menat to and has made me fairly depressed about the situation.

I planned to get on the scales for the first time in this challenge, now I feel it will be counter productive, :(.

I had breakfast (toast) and lunch, bowl of vgetables left ovr fom the weekend with a littl pesto. :)

BTW, I know I raved about it last week, but the water filter is GREAT.

I'm at 12st 4lbs - always my sticking point... I can never seem to break through...

I NEED to see the scales dip under the 12 stone mark (even 11st 13.99 would make me happy!)

Any tips for boosting weight loss when you hit a plateau?

How are the rest of you doing?

The Dragon
10-12-2008, 10:54 AM
Weight is creeping back down for me after the medication "blip", not sure what to suggest for a plateau - I normally just have to ride it out! Some one once suggested eating oranges and dried apricots - so you could try upping the amount of fruit (excluding bananananananananas you eat!)

YAY!!!!

After being stuck at 12st 4lb for a whole week, the scales have started to nudge down a bit today... not quite a whole pound, but at least the right direction.

Strange thing is... I fell off the wagon last night and had a drop too much of the red wine, so by rights I should have put weight on! Having said that, I sat and sorted through three boxes of old papers yesterday and recycled/shredded/filed the lot, so maybe I burned off enough calories to cancel the wine out!

I'm not taking any chances now though, I am determined to get to 12st 2lb by Monday!

Hi folks, Hope everyone is getting back on track?

Weigh in tomorrow - remember to shave your legs... every little helps... :D

Well, surprisingly enough, I am still inching down. It is slow going, though, and very frustrating. I'd love to get really active burn off a load of calories... but today I'm in bed with a flare up, so not much chance of that!

I don't think I'll hit my two pounds this week, but I should be close, I think.

I'm going to get a pair of scales that show the ounces too, I'd like to know if I have at least lost half a lb!
I *THINK* I have lost 1lb (FINALLY) I spent the night at my mums yesterday, babysitting, and scarfed loads of naughties:o , though I did resist the chinese and make chilli from scratch instead. Anyhow, when I got home I naturally weighed myself, because I'm OCD about it, and it said 13st 8lbs, BUT I had eaten breakfast and drank loads of pop, so HOPEFULLY, tomorrow morning it will say 13st 1lb....*WISHFUL THINKING* 13st 7lb!

Fingers crossed anyways, I've lost over 3stone in as many months but It's super slowed down to about an lb a week, granted I do hardly any exercise, unless loading the washing machine and doing dishes counts, hehe.
I do suffer bad back pain, I have a benign tumour right beside my spine, which should be out within the next 2months, so hopefully once that's out, I can use my exercise bike, which has turned out to be quite a handy clotheshorse:p

Hi Dragon - yes its a fibro flare. I know what happened - I went to a christmas festival yesterday - did quite a bit of driving and a lot of sitting on a hard pew. Came back, felt great, sat and watched the x factor final on sky plus, went to bed, slept like a log........

So I have stayed in bed today - I have learned over the years that sometimes a duvet day is called for!

Hi everyone,

Well done to you all , keep up the good work!

Just wanted to offer a piece of advice for you all, dont weigh yourself everyday, it is really disheartening, you should do it once a week maximum, and if you could go even longer then even better..
You really wont notice a 'honest' difference if you are weighing yourself everyday, it will vary because of time of day, what you have eaten, and time of the month etc all come into it.

Anyway, hope you all keep it up, Im too busy to join in at the mo, but I maybe back, got half a stone of babyweight to shift, that I lost but have managed to put back on over winter :-(

WooooHoooooo!!!!

I have lost 2.5 lbs this week!!! :j :j :j

I am so happy! That means I am on target for my half stone - and more importantly, I should tip the scales to under 12 stone some time this week.

Then I shall be going for 11st 6 lbs, which was what I weighed in Summer 2007. I piled weight on shortly after that, when I had relationship problems and although the weight gain stopped when the relationship finally ended, it has taken me untilo now to make a concerted effort to sort myself out. So this is really good for me!

Thanks so much for your support girls!

Actually I have been advised by the doctors to weigh myself every couple of days/daily so that I can keep a track of what my medication does to my weight .

I weigh myself every morning because I need that routine to help me stay focussed. It doesn't worry me that some days the scales are a bit up, so long as I know why (which I usually do) and as long as the over all trend is down...

I'm still here!

I'm doing ok, in fat, somthing weird is happning. I've gon off food entirly and am really struggling to make my calories in healthy choices. (bizarrely for me th only thing that appeals is Indian food, and wine, which I'm not touching- either.) My skin looks like a war zone and I'm homonal, I normally want every carb in UK at this time, but not so right now. TBH, I almost wondred if I were preganant at the nd of last week verything is so odd. But I'm not. I'v still not weighed, but for th forst time in ages my mother noticed I looked lik I'v lost a little and I'm certainly feling lik things are working.

BTW ith th wighing, I'm normally a rgular daily weigher too. I did when I was slim and fit, and I think not facing the scales, despite variations in water/hormone/ otherr influnces things get out of hand: its a good idea to not take the rading to seriously mor than once a week, but to face one's choices isn't so awful, just as long as you don't read too much into it, IMO. The reason I'm not this time is bcause I can't take the bad news, and I'm cping mor than fin without. I'v set a clothing size to gulp at and take the bad news and continue from there. But I'm with this programme as commitedly as anyone.

Well done Lostinrates, for sticking with it. Even if you don't use the scales, you will feel the benefit from your clothes. But I promise you, once you decide to weigh yourself, and start charting the weight loss on the calorie count programme, you will be amazed how motivating it is to see the graph heading south!

Today I wore a size smaller dress than I was wearing last week. It feels good, not even slightly tight. :)

I don't feel too pressured about Christmas eating. So far I've stuck to water when out - driving anyway. We have a houseful at Christmas, and I'm sure I'll have some snacks then, and I'll have Christmas pudding, but I'm not too pressured about it. Something has just clicked, and although my skin is not looking good weight must be coming off, and I'm feeling a lot less worried about it. This has been a wonderful kick start. Dealing with it in a short time frame has been easier.

How soon after Christmas are you guys prepard to re-group for a January thread? ;)

Hi sorry I haven't weighed myself today - I was doing great by Thursday - I'd lost 1.5 lbs and was well on target, but I have gone down with this flippin lurgy again and am feeling totally carp. Somehow I always put weight on when I'm ill, even though I'm hardly eating anything - where is the justice in the world???????

Anyways, we still have a few days to go (I reckon I'll have my last weigh-in christmas day morning :o

Hows about 1st Jan for a two week speed drop to ditch any christmas excess? :D

Well Done You for losing the half stone!

I was within half a pound.... but have now put 3lb back on

I am still trying to shift a chest infection though - like most people with chronic health conditions, I succumb easily to these things and find it takes a while to shake them off.

But by 1st Jan, I will be hopping around, full of beans, and raring to go

(I'm practising my NLP :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)

I am still trying to shift a chest infection though - like most people with chronic health conditions, I succumb easily to these things and find it takes a while to shake them off.On the epidemiology of influenza (http://www.virologyj.com/content/5/1/29) this paper explains why we get more colds/flu/upper respiratory tract infections in winter.

The point when the production of cathelicidin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathelicidin)
stops when 25(OH)D levels fall below 20ng/ml. (http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/85/3/860/F1)

The lower under this point you get the greater the chance of infection. The higher your Vitamin D status the less chance of infection.

So what foods contain Vitamin D Ted?

Hi Ted, I am aware of this. I also suffer with fms, which tends to be exacerbated by low Vit D levels. Goodness knows with the summer we've had, we must all be Vit D deficient! For this reason I normally try and get away for a cheapo sunshine break at end of Oct, to top up my Vit D levels and see me through at least the first 6 weeks or so of the hibernation season. Unfortunately I missed my break this year, and what with the poor summer, I'm paying for it!

Hiya Buttons - Well Done!

For new year, remember vodka and diet mixer has the fewest calories - and if you alternate with diet mixer alone, that will half your calories from drinks.

Or, of course, you could just throw caution to the wind, have a great night, and join us back here on 1st January ;)

It's always diet coke and vodka I drink anyways, I'm a lightweight so a few gets me merry.
I do enjoy the taste of cider but It dosen't even get me tipsy and think of all those calories....!

Okay I am not sure if I am still drunk or hungover! (I have never had a hangover but I have seen others in inaction!), I ended up having 2 bottles of wine last night/this morning which is about a bottle and a half more than normal!

Starting the New Year at 295 pounds so my Janaury challenge is to get and stay below 290 pounds!

Happy New Year Folks!!!

Well, amazingly, I finished the week only three quarters of a pound up! I can live with that!

Now I'm going to need you guys to really go some with me this month - I'm off to Turkey on 27th Jan for 28 days (or I will be once I've booked it tomorrow!)

Without my sloppy joe jumpers to hide me, I look like a sack of spuds, so I need to shed another half stone this month.

I've started a new thread, we are going great guns, lets go for it!
