What about dry shaving using an electric razor if you think it might be ingredients in the products causing irritation?

I've thought about a dry shaver and did use one briefly. The only issue was that it took ages to shave and I was still red afterwards because of the rubbing.
I may consider it again though, as it's preferable to walking around feeling like i'm being flame grilled.
I do tend to like a bit of growth, 4-5 days worth, and then shave off and start again.

Just grow a nice sexy beard! Trim it regularly, but not so short it's scratchy.

I currently use Nivea sensitve foam and Balm and Bic sensitive razors (the green pack with aloe vera strips) but i've tried many and they all do the same.
This stuff made my OH's face do exactly the same - it was awful. I am 99% certain it was the Nivea sensitive balm which was the cause  , maybe it's the same with you? I would recommend binning it TBH. Seriously.
Try calming the skin down with Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream if you have the awful dry peeling as well as the redness / heat (warning it is quite pricey and smells and looks very weird but it really does work in my opinion) or use a really simple facial moisturising cream. You could also try putting the cream in the fridge to cool it down and be more soothing on your skin.

bic razors  they take half your face off with them lol
try using a quality razor, and some king of shaves sensitive with antibacterial
should do the trick

Sue - I tend to grow it a certain length then shave it off. I don't want a full beard though.
Olympika - With the Nivea, I may do so after Christmas. I'm not mentioning it to anyone as I usually get a Nivea something for Xmas. I'll try a moisturising cream - i'm not sure I could afford Elizabeth Arden. I'll try the fridge thing too.
Lady_A - I've not seen King Of Shaves around. I have bought a Gillette Fusion razor though, so i'll see how this works.
Thanks all.

my ohs skin used to look angry etc after a shave now he uses loreal shaving gel and a wilkinsword 4 bladed razor with changeable heads and he finds its the only thing that works for him.in the past when hes shaved hes used simple aftershave cooling balm to soothe but ovbviously its better to find something thats works in the first place.if you give it a go hope it works for you.:D

King of shaves is stocked by boots, superdrugs, tesco, sainsburys etc and its usually on special offer in one or the other.
If you have such sensitive skin then ask family not to be buying you rubbish gift boxed stuff as you will only be contributing to the problem. Re the nivea? Make me itch like hell as well and thats just my legs so hate to think what it could do on a face. Same as gillette and all the rest. If I dont have any oils I use soapless hand soap
DO NOT EVER USE VEET - you will be giving yourself a face peel at the same time
A fusion is ok but personally (as a woman) I still prefer a mach3. Never once have I cut myself on a mach3 but have left myself very raw on the fusion:confused:
Always wash the blade and dry it after use. Hairs and water will dull it causing drag and therefore causing soreness
Basically you need to use as sharp a blade as possible so using less strokes and you need a lubricant that allows glide such as king of shaves. Finishing off with a splash of tepid water will help cool things down and pat your face dry using a fresh towel - dont rub. Softening your beard by placeing a hottish wet face cloth on it for a few minutes directly before shaving may help as well

My OH (24) hates shaving with a vengence as he has very thick, coarse facial hair. We tried him on Liz Earle for men shaving cream and aftershave balm (after much whinging from me about how good everything I use was) and he now loves it. You can buy small sizes from her website.

Do you have a Lush near you? They sell 3 shaving creams. People tend to either love or hate Lush products, but if you go in and explain your problem they will probably give you a free sample.

I recommend quality Aloe Vera based products or Dermalogica alot. Both are not the cheapest but there's a reason for that! If your skin is as hyper sensitive as it sounds then you need to seriously invest in some safer products that are not causing these reactions.

The Liquid Soap is amazing, a daily cleanser but can be used a shaving gel by adding a little water.
Aloe Propolis cream will help to soothe irritated skin ( I use this for ezcema and its excellent)
They also have 60 day money back guarantee, so this is good if you are worried about it not working.

Dermalogica Mirco exfoliant is very good and very fine, doesn't irritate or cause redness. Haven't tried the specific male products, but cleanser/make up remover are all very good and help sensitive skin.
I hope you'll be able to treat yourself and get some products that help. They are out there, they just cost a bit more than the main stream items but I promise their worth it cause it will help restore your confidence. :A
Hope this helps.

Was also going to mention the Liquid Soap as mentioned above. My husband too suffered very sore skin after shaving so mostly ended up leaving it to grow and getting spots in his beard!!He shaves with Liquid Soap and then follows it with Gentlemans Pride aftershave balm by the same company. With this combination his skin is great with no flare ups.
Hope this helps

try an oldfashioned hot flanel followed by bristle brush and disk(whats in a shaving mug)you can still get these and aparantly are getting popular again(so im told)dont leave it too long between shaves try every 2-3 days before growth gets to strong. when you have finished shaving put a cool flanel on for a minute or two.
