I just bought an Audi a3 51 reg SE. Comes with a CD player. The audio is terrible and I want to upgrade to an aftermarket system. Ideally want a DAB radio with CD and MP3 player. Did some research and found that the Sony CDX 6650 is going to do the job. I also have a VIBE sub woofer with built in amp that I wish to use and possibly an extra set of 6x9s. Upon futher research, I found that I need a bunch of other accessories to make the thing work as the audi doesnt support RCA outputs and all speakers are amplified etc etc... I think I can find all the stuff cheaply online but I want to get them professionally installed by someone who can do a clean job.. Can anyone please let me know where I shold look for people who would be able to do it for me cheap? A friend of mine got it done from someone who came to the house and did everything required for £40. I dont know where to start looking for someone like that. I lost touch with this friend since....

Any guidance on what I can do with the upgrade on my A3 will also be appreciated.

This is the gear I think that will make everything work.

Sony CDX-6650
Autoleads PC9-404 Audi ISO Lead/Harness
Autoleads PC4-20 Amplifier Wiring Kit
Autoleads FP-18-00 - Seat Facia Panel
Autoleads PC5-52 Signal Seperation Filter
An extra pair of good quality 6x9s (open to suggestions)
Some sort of audio splitter to power the extra speakers.

Cheers.

Audi OE stuff is Bose isnt it? Doubt you'll get much better without spending silly money...

if the radio reception is crap unsrew the aerial and check that its not rusted,

i had a car once where it was all rusted, i guess they let water get in there then screwed the aerial back it, cleaned it all up and it was perfect

The roof aerial bases can leak at the gasket and rust them from the outside, worth checking...

I think we are all going off topic. THere is nothing wrong with the reception. The quality of the sound is aweful. I dont like OEM systems anyways. A good after market system would do the job. I want it LOUD.. and sharp and bassy!

As was mentioned above, it's worth taking it along to your local 'boy-racer' - car-tech shop to at least let them have a look & give you a quote. I did this locally (Leicester) a couple of years ago and, after talking to the guys in the shop, got the details of a mobile fitter who they dealt with & he did an excellent job for me.

the a3 came witht the option of bose sound system with a sub woofer built in to left side of the boot.
wiring this set up is easy enough.
most autolead stuff comes with wiring diagrams and are super easy to follow.
all you need is a heavy power cable (fused) from the battery running through the car into the boot, run the cable up left hand side, then the output wires with remote wire from stereo to amp (run these up the right hand side, dont run them together with the power wire as you will get interferance.
then connect the amp up to the sub woofer and extra 6x9's on the parcel shelf you fitted.
i done it to my focus, minus the sub, just a good set of jbl 6x9's and a kenwood amp. more than loud enough and great bass from them.
the stereo should also be easy enought to upgrade with autoleads kits.hard to go wrong.
