well not "in car" so much, more in my hubbys Transit van..he drives Derby to Glasgow mon-thu nights, and due to being picky eater,he is just about living on sarnies, is there such a thing as an oven that works through the fag lighter outlet?.
He stops a few times obviously, but there is never any fresh food to eat,he hates the fact its been stood for hours and charged extortionate prices for it and no sausage rolls etc in the warm displays..he would take a saus roll or pie if we could find a way of warming it.
I even suggested wrapping it in foil and sticking it under bonnet on engine!:T
does anyone have ideas..that are better than mine of course:D

wont be via the fag lighter , but im sure a camper van dealer would sort you something out
might work out a bit costly though lol..id imagine you need a inverter and possible another battery ? or use it with the engine on

Agree, a powerful inverter, and perhaps a low power microwave should work.

£55- 700w inverter

£35 700w microwave
Will need some robust wiring from the battery, or running off jumpleads.

Samsung make a 12V microwave it is only 400w.
Google it or there is this guy selling them on ebay pretty cheaply.

It may seem pticey and of low power but The problem with an inverter and a low powr microwave is that the power output quoted is often the peak power (can only deliver this for a short period of time couple of seconds) not the constant operating power which is usually much lower. High current ones can be pretty pricey.

take some foil and wrap a potatoe in it, then wedge the potatoe on the exhaust manifold, drive until cooked :)

Maplin used to sell an in-car microwave:

But if you look in any Transit van used by Railtrack contractors you'll see a normal microwave mounted in the wall.

If its just warm food, and depending on his travel time, many electric cool boxes can work in reverse, enough to keep food warm and on a longer trip possibly warm it up a fair bit too. If you got a 240v/12v coolbox transformer (halfords do them about £15) you can plug the cool box in at home for quite some time to get up to power, then transfer it to the cigarette lighter in the van.
This sort of size

would do it but this one is bit expensive, can be bought cheaper, if you find one this size that is about 60-65watt (5amps) it will be effective. The trick with these is the insulation, makes a little power go a long way.

what about using a food flask? you can keep things like hotdogs warm for hours inside them.

And a good trick is to pour boiling water in first and let the thing inside heat up, then pour it out before putting your boiling hot food in

You can actually heat pies and pasties up by wrapping them in tin foil and wedging them somewhere secure on the engine then taking them out when your peckish - i have done this many times in a landrover!
