well... only a couple of quid's worth, but, hey. ;)

I've just booked travel through their website, and in the final options before paying had the choice to buy buffet/ trolley vouchers up front. Now, I KNOW it's cheaper to take sandwiches, but c'mon...

Anyway, you can buy a £10 voucher for £7.50, or a £5 one for £4. So if you know you'll be buying stuff then you can save yourself an extra fiver by paying for most of it up front.

Better still, use them in the dining car and get a nice hot meal out of it. And if you've got a std class ticket it's equivalent to a free upgrade to first class...

That is not possible. The voucher has terms & conditions which prevent it being used in the dining car. However it can be used with the new First Class service.

Almost all NXEC trains have no dining car from Monday 5th January. Only a handful remain at peak hours. The remaining trains will be at-seat first class dining and over the Cafe Bar.

Oh, that's a shame. Looking at the nxec site it seems it will be paid-for dining too in first class, while VT's offering will continue to be free. I only wish the two companies competed on more routes - I know which I would choose now!
