Clutch gone, waranty job?

Anyone any experience, good or bad, in getting thier clutch fixed under the car manufacturers waranty?
I know the clutch would be subject to normal wear and tear and as such could be excluded from waranty, but I'm pretty sure this one has suffered some sort of mechanical failure.

Car is a 2005 Renault Megane DCI Est, 39k miles, 1 month waranty to go.

Pressed the clutch pedal and there was a distinct "crack" that I heard and felt through the pedal. Car seemed to drive of ok but the pedal has a slightly reduced travel. That was a couple of days ago and the car has been perfectly drivable, but the pedal didn't feel as it should be, so yesterday, giving it some welly uphill in 3,4,5 gear etc the engine sings away - clutch slipping. Never had a clutch go in almost 40 years driving, so convinced it's not me


So has anyone had similar issues and what dealer reaction/result did you get?

Should have gone to VW, Ford, specsavers type replies not needed please;) ;) ;)

Not completely correct.

failure due to Wear and tear of the friction surface during normal use is excluded, but mechanical failure of a part in the clutch mechanism would be covered under mechanical warranty of the drive train, if its the standard 3 year Renault warranty. (IE not an import with a reduced warranty period)

Take it to your Renault Dealer and ask them to investigate under warranty. You may find they cover in full if they find a failed part, or offer a part contribution,

Really have nothing to lose as you will need to get it done anyway.

Wrong Roddy, mechanical failure is, wear isn't. Just trying to guage service dept likely reaction.

Vicky, I will be calling in at Renault today. But I will not be having it repaired there at any cost to me;) ;)

Don't blame you using a local garage, much better deal, but at least if you can get renault ot do an investigation first.

Seems to be a few problems out there with the clutch and Meganes of about that age.

If you have not already Google Megane 05 Clutch Failure, might get you some amunition to use. at the least its an interesting read.

problem is if they investigate it and find it to be wear and tear they would probably invoice you for the cost

ive heard of cars going in less time than that, my car is still on its first clutch and its way over 100k

I know what you mean, driving style can screw a clutch in no time, but I've run some cars for over 100K miles and never yet had a clutch failure, something has broken on this one.

Sounds like a warranty claim to me... the crack noise is significant. 3 years for a clutch? Seems to me like you have a good case. Don't forget to ask for a second opinion or ask Renault to get someone out to the dealer to check if you are not happy.

I'ts one of those catch 22 situations, they have to take the gearbox out to investigate so it has to go to the dealer:confused:

Anyway went in and told them the story and said I want to view the parts.

But why am I so distrusting to think that they could show me any old clutch?

Goes in tomorrow, went from perfect one day to only just managing the 10 mile round trip to renault today.:beer:

Nightmare for you. If it was an independent, they'd let you sit and watch, well almost, so that you could see. With a dealeship - you are lucky if you are able to even speak to the said person that has worked on your car....
