Hi All

I'm interested in fitting an LPG kit to my car (Subaru Impreza, naturally-aspirated) and wondered about doing this myself. I would like to do a course before being let loose on my car however so wondered if anyone has done such a course? I read on here that a few of the big installers/distributors of LPG kits run courses, but the only one I've found out about it Tinley Tech's. http://www.tinleytech.co.uk/training.html This costs £300 for a day's course and once they've checked over your first install, you are qualified to issue LPGA certificates, which sounds like it means you'll be good enough to do a good installation. Has anyone done this course or any other similar course? How did you find it?

I would be doing this for the interest of doing it rather than money saving per se but of course it all helps. I will buy the best kit available for my application and not skimp there though. If I take to it then there would be scope to install kits on my family and freinds' cars too I suppose.

Any views (except "buy a diesel"!) would be appreciated.

It's not as simple as that. You need tuning equipment as well to ensure it's all set up OK and meeting emissions. Also whether or not you're up to it depends on your mechanical knowledge, especially with the more complex installations which would require the removal of inlet manifolds, drilling holes and tapping a thread in them for the injectors as well as carrying out some wiring.

Thanks for the reply. I could use the gas analyser at a friend's garage and I'm a reasonably competent at diy servicing and have degrees in mechanical engineering so I think I could muddle through with support from LPG discussion fora and the experience of a course?

Don't let anyone light-up in your newly converted LPG car

Do you have practical experience to back up those degrees? Yeah, you'll probably get there with the way you've stated and having a friend with a proper emissions analyser is good because those Gunson things you can buy at Halfrauds aren't enough. Just take your time on the first few.
