Hi All,
Would really appreciate any advice. I've just been offered £1,500 for my 03 Corsa SXi (1.2, 16v, 3 dr) which is in good condition apart from a couple of small dents from supermarket car parks and a damaged alloy. Full Vauxhall service history. New tyres, brakes etc. but higher than average mileage - 66k.
He reckons he can't offer more because the there's hardly any profit in the Golf I was looking at (which does seem reasonably priced). This is from a VW dealership.
I was disappointed. Should I be?
Thanks in advance
GL

Sell it privatly. look at how much they are going for on aututrader.co.uk and price yours accordingly. you will make more money, but will have the hassle of selling it your self.
good luck

Thanks jscalow....the problem is in the current climate, will it even sell?
I do have a friend who might be interested though so will ask her first!

The VW Dealer isn't even giving you £1500, because he would no doubt give you at least £500 discount for no part exchange, so in reality they are offering you about £1000.
Try another dealer.
You are in the driving seat.

Thanks inactive, that's good advice that I hadn't thought of.
I walked out telling them I was really disappointed and showing very little interest and he said he'd get his boss to give me a call. So i'm going to let them sweat for a bit!

How about offering it to your friend for the bargain PX price, and then you should be able to negotiate a discount with the VW dealer?

Thanks sarahg - that is sort of my plan! I know my friend's mum wants 5dr really though as they are getting on a bit....!

Good for you, they need your money hopefully, more than you need their car.
Good luck.;)

Yup - i'm in no hurry (i like my Corsa!) and there seem to be plenty of cars out there. Also I imagine things will only get more desperate for dealers after Christmas when everyone is skint!

tidy it up a bit and sell it private.
small cars like a corsa will sell all day long if priced properly. so under cut everyone in autotrader or just even match the lower prices. but remember yours is the sxi so it should fetch a bit more than just a base model.
if it was me i would price it around £2200 or very nearest offer. then take you wedge of cash into the dealer and re negotiate a better deal for the golf.

What Golf did you want to part ex with? Why get rid of a perfectly good corsa? :-)
Is it possible to go to another dealer? Some dealers are just tight, some cant do enough to help.

What you need to look at is the 'Cost To Change'.
Forget the values of either car, simply, you'll need to part with £xxxx to get into the new one.
How does that stack up agaionst a similar Golf at another dealer?
Then you'll have, at least, a fair comparrison.
& fastest way to sell a good car is

You get paid, with NO comebacks, or time wasters, or advert costs.

Glass's is showing your car as £1795 in P/X (assuming it's a 2003 03 Corsa B). But most stealers will cut the price of your car because they will not retail it but kick it out to dealer contacts or place it in auction. Given the state of the car market £1.5k may be reasonable.

Have you got money to burn?
If not, why not keep the Corsa?

First off get the dealer to give you cash price to buy the car with no p/x then ask them at this price what they will give you for your car.
This is the true trade in value of your car and anything you can sell it for above this figure is 'profit'.
