My Drivers door mirror unit was hit with some pretty hefty debris on the motorway a few weeks ago, it has completed removed all the plastic housing, but the actually mirror (glass) and electrics are all still in place and work.
Would I need to replace the whole elctric door mirror or can I just buy a new housing for it?
I have had a look through the web, but struggling to find anything other than this (http://www.car-partsonline.com/Results.asp?Basic=580&command=) and all the different specifications confused me, I'm not even sure those were the right ones.
The nearest VW garage that do repairs is miles away.
I have a 2002 VW Bora 1.9 TDI 130BHP in black.
Can anyone help?

ebay or scrappy if your handy with a screwdriver
Often fiddly but worth while, ive fixed many a vandalised mirror
dont take it to a main stealer if you cant do it, a back street garage will be just as good

Thanks, but would I need to get a replacement for the whole unit or can you buy just the housing, obviously because they are electric the whole unit would be significantly more expensive than just the housing. I don't know what is available to buy!

Very easy to fit yourself, (no need for screwdriver, as it's push-fit ;)) as long as none of the fitting points on the rear have snapped off. The cover will be colour coded though, so you either need to find a scrappy with the same colour car as you (mk4 Golf will be the same cover), or buy one from the 'main stealer' () for about £23 and paint it yourself with a £12 spray can.
No garage required and fixed for £35.

ah result!
well keep our eyes peeled on ebay, it will probably be easier and just as cheap to replace the whole lot or just see if you can get the cover like tingtongtony suggests
Try calling a company called silverlake in southampton, they have 1000's of spares on the shelf ready to go

would you use royal mail to post it? Or do you not risk it as they use vaxhall and ford vans?
