What's the deal?

Sports retailer JJB sports recently launched its first 'MiFit' no-frills gym in Llanishen, Cardiff. With membership set at £9.95/mth (plus £31.50 'activation' fee), and no contract, we'll be watching keenly as more of these gyms appear across the UK.

In the meantime, we'd love to hear feedback from anybody that's tried out the flagship Cardiff gym. So if that's you, please do post below.

How does it work?

The MiFit gyms will be located on mezzanine floors in existing JJB sports shops to keep costs down. They'll be kitted out with a full range of gym equipment, as well as comprehensive changing facilities, but not spas, steam rooms, swimming pools and the like, which would considerably push up the running costs.

All members will be given a special digital key, which as well as allowing entry into the gym, can be inserted into the fitness machines, where it'll record progress on your training routine, goals, calories burned etc. More info (http://www.mifit.com/mf/wellness/wellness_steps.aspx)

When will there be one near me?

The folks at MiFit say they'll be 'rolling out gyms nationwide in the next 12 months', yet they couldn't offer any specific dates and locations. All new gym openings will be detailed on the MiFit site (http://www.mifit.com), where you can also get a free day pass for the Llanishen gym.

I have joined this gym and it's brilliant! No frills, but up-to -the-minute equipment, your own key system, and it's next door to Starbucks!!!;)

anyone looking for cheap, well equipped no tie gym usage in the 'Diff would do well to check out the county council run gyms. Maindy in particular is well equipped with a nice atmosphere. great student rates available too. pentwyn is also quite well equipped and less busy, although the swimming pool is like the artic ocean  one way to get people swimming faster :D

I joined this when it first opened, and I'm v happy with it ... perfect if you're just looking to use the gym, all facilities brand new, clean, staff friendly and helpful. I worked out that for the amount I get to use facilities, at £9.95 a month it was considerably cheaper than Council Stretch card ... I can still afford to swim once/week and do a leisure centre class and be quids in.

One downside I've discovered is car park is heaving at lunchtimes, due to shoppers at M&S/Boots etc ... all the more reason to go on my bike!

Ah yes, and big gripe .... remember to take a bottle of water with you ... how tight is this for a no-frills gym, they don't even have a water fountain, but do have a machine you can pay *£1* to get a bottle of water from. Grrrr. ... I feel that's unsafe!

Ahhh...that's because it's a 'no-frills' gym. I just take a little bottle of Lidl's best in my bag.
Do agree with you about the parking, though...

There's a similar low-cost gym concept called 'The Gym'. At the moment there's one open in Hounslow and one soon opening in Guildford. For £14.99 per month. http://www.thegymgroup.com/

Has any member of MiFit tried accesing the other JJB gyms??? Or even the other way around??

I work in Merthyr and live by LLanishen, Merthyr has a JJB Gym so to access to both would be brilliant.

Thanks

Jason
