What's the deal?
Sports retailer JJB sports recently launched its first 'MiFit' no-frills gym in Llanishen, Cardiff. With membership set at £9.95/mth (plus £31.50 'activation' fee), and no contract, we'll be watching keenly as more of these gyms appear across the UK.
In the meantime, we'd love to hear feedback from anybody that's tried out the flagship Cardiff gym. So if that's you, please do post below.
How does it work?
The MiFit gyms will be located on mezzanine floors in existing JJB sports shops to keep costs down. They'll be kitted out with a full range of gym equipment, as well as comprehensive changing facilities, but not spas, steam rooms, swimming pools and the like, which would considerably push up the running costs.
All members will be given a special digital key, which as well as allowing entry into the gym, can be inserted into the fitness machines, where it'll record progress on your training routine, goals, calories burned etc. More info (http://www.mifit.com/mf/wellness/wellness_steps.aspx)
When will there be one near me?
The folks at MiFit say they'll be 'rolling out gyms nationwide in the next 12 months', yet they couldn't offer any specific dates and locations. All new gym openings will be detailed on the MiFit site (http://www.mifit.com), where you can also get a free day pass for the Llanishen gym.
