I recently went to the BBC Green site and found a great offer for 1000 points. All you have to do is join Green Rewards www.greenrewards.co.uk (http://www.greenrewards.co.uk) and enter the code bbcgr7 I used my free points to offset the carbon for me and my fellas Xmas holiday flights.
:j :T
Nice one! Thanks a lot! Welcome to MSE - your first post is really useful :)

I was trying to use the code and couldn't get it working, THEN I realised it was case sensitive, whoops, silly me...still, worth noting!!!
I splashed out on the Wattson Wireless Energy Monitor, they're fab - it's scarey how much energy we waste...!

I was wrong, so wrong, so I deleted my first post about price differences.
It turns out that the Green Shop Pet Poo convertor costs more because it incudes the worms - which the manufacturers' own does not.
So apologies to the Green shop and anyone I may have misled.
(Hangs head in shame).
However in my defence (sort of) I've now discovered that Amazon DOES sell the same item for £20 more so don't buy one from there!
Anyway, I'm off to buy one (from the Green Shop :o ) and shall then teach my dog how to use it :j

With an old email addy I tried joining up first and getting the 500 points. This does work and 500 are credited. However, when you try to add the bbcgr7 code, it tells you that as you are already registered, you cannot use this code as it is for new registrants only. So unfortunately not possible to get 1500 points. Pity, it would have given more choice of what to 'buy' for free!

On the purchasing screen, you have to make sure you select the drop down option to pay by points or it thinks you are paying real money for it by default.

Those who missed out, you could always bag your points while they are available, they should stay on your account, and once they restock then revisit the site to order. You could save it to 'Favourites' or bookmark it so you remember.

When you go to the site remember to click the light bulb in the top right hand corner. It reduces the amount of energy uses to view the pages (I think :) ) Anyway, it does something!
I've just been reduced to tears by opening the video "lethal sound" re whales and dolphins being killed and beached because of careless use of sonar.
If you don't want to watch the video (it is upsetting I found) you can still help the whales by signing the petition at http://www.wdcs.org/wesailforthewhale/en/petition2.php
its free.
thanks, Kath.

complete with invoice for £5.67!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mine as well - it's how much it would have cost if we'd paid for it with money rather than points. I'm assuming it's an admin error - but that's fine, because we didn't give them any card details to accidentally take money from. :) Haven't opened mine yet - not sure it would have been worth £5.67, but it's a nice freebie!
at least its not just me then!

Yes it will - if you pay with points the p&p is included - so no cost to you.
BUT, this outfit have shamelessly increased the base costs of everything that was less than 1000 points since this free 1000 point sign-up started - so now nothing is 'free' and it shouldn't be on the freebies thread at all.
I ordered (and got, very quickly) a 22W bulb for 850 points that is now 1010 points, and several people 'bought' the sandwich wrapper thingie for less than 1000 - that's now 1010 too. And their base prices (in £) are more than other schemes (eg CarbonCreditz) for the same items.
Top marks to them for the initial offer and for speed of delivery - but, for an 'ethical' outfit, 0/10 for their subsequent behaviour...

I stand corrected - their carbon-offsetting is still free for 1000 points.
Excellent for the environment (assuming you buy-in to this carbon-offsetting lark, which is verging on a scam in many cases, but that's a matter for another thread entirely...).

Yes, this happened to me too (although the contact form did work :) ). However its easy to correct. You can't go to the store to earn points if you click on "read more" first. So just start again, select your retailer, click on the logo - NOT read more - and you will see the button "shop now" which takes you direct to the shop site so you can earn your points. Easy when you know how!:D
Re. other moans about the site and points going up etc - well, they must have been inundated by us MSErs wanting freebies and they are a new outfit - so give them a break I say ;) Mind you they have not replied to a question I asked about a radio on their site...

Just a heads up that comments on the environment site (http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/forum/eco-products-services/13993-1000-free-points-green-rewards.html#post253786)(another discussion site) (http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/forum/eco-products-services/13993-1000-free-points-green-rewards.html#post253786)about this greenrewards site suggest that the OP for the discussion there may have an interest in promoting greenrewards.
So maybe, perhaps, the OP here is the same - original posting wording is similar on both mse and the environemnt site, though the OP on the other site denies posting on mse.
And most of their posts here do keep plugging the same greenrewards site.
Add to that the mysterious rise in points costs, that meant that only the first few subscribers could get 'free' things for 1000 points, after which, with no apology or explanation all points prices rose above 1000, encouraging actual spend.
Makes me a little suspicious. And when you start to look around you find there's another newbie promoting greenrewards too.
I'll report this to the mods - as the site no longer offers anything free, unless you have well over 1000 points, and you can't accumulate those without spending first - so it's now in the wrong forum anyway - and might, perhaps, be promoting the OP's own business.
Happy to wrong on all this, but it doesn't look good.

Carbon offsetting is still free - it's not a tangible freebie, but it is a freebie. Perhaps a Board Guide or the OP could edit the original post to point this out and save new visitors to this thread from being disappointed?
As for not being able to get anything free anymore - as soon as something hits MSE, the promotion tends to be short lived! Tis the nature of this forum. ;)

Yes, carbon offsetting is still free - but we are given no information on the nature of the carbon-offsetting - so cannot judge whether it's a good offsetting scheme or just one of those 'plant a few trees' jobs that doesn't achieve much, as they often are left unmanaged and die - which defeats the object of the exercise. True carbon-offsetting requires some evidence of longterm commitment etc and if their scheme is good they should be telling us all about it. The greenrewards site tells us Absolutely Nothing about the nature of their offsetting - their FAQ says simply:What is carbon offset? Carbon offsetting is a way to reduce the effect of your carbon dioxide emissions, either as an individual or an organisation. Find out how to redeem your points for carbon offsets in our Green Shop.Which isn't a lot of info is it? If their offset scheme is a good and effective one I would expect a lot more info - as they should be proud of it.
But my suspicions about the 1000 point sign-up remain, whether or not the offsetting is any good. If the scheme is done in conjunction with a BBC site, I would guess greenrewards get a small payment from the sponsor each time someone signs up with the promotional code - so it's in someone's interest to get as many as possible to sign-up, and to give back as little as possible...

I saw the offer on teh Gardeners World site and it took me to BBC Green, at the time it was offering freebies but I guess they didnt know that MSE's would bombard them with orders. If this post now needs moving then can someone tell me how? :o

Green is the Colour, I was lucky enough to order early when the squirly light bulbs were just 810 points (I think there was about a 2 hour time window), and I am very grateful to you for your original post! The light bulb arrived the next day, the fastest freebie I have ever been sent, and it was the first energy saving bulb I have ever tried that comes bright straight away and seems to put out just as much light as a normal bulb.
When I need to buy energy saving bulbs (which should not be for some considerable time given all the offers that have been on here in the last week) I now know which to buy to get nice bright ones!
Thanks again
violetta :)

Amberlina, glad it works for new sign ups...
jenza8... seems it is right... you are just using the 500 free points for signing up as opposed to the emailed code for those signed up already ! :T

I thought it should have been 2,268... 268 did look like a misprice. Well, we'll have to see if they honour any orders now!

Joined successfully and got 500 points, but can't work out how to spend them on the t shirt which keeps turning up in my cart for a cash price. Have emailed so will wait and see what the answer is.

Yep... the power of MSE freebie hunters has caused them to close the T-shirt loophole!! :p
Congrats to all those that managed to get in quick... :T Lets hope they honour the orders... ;)
:D
You can still get days out vouchers... they are currently 250 points each, so potential to get hold of two...

It is always worth 'banking' the points anyway, then if next Christmas (or Valentine's Day, or Easter etc etc) they give us more bonus points, there will be enough for a good freebie!

so there you go,you said it your self that you print out all the signup email etc and which is not eco friendly and it says clearly on the site that plz don't print out the emails and confirmations stuff to save the world(which is already hell):D any way try the forget password button and if you can't then make new one or i will make a new one for you and you can then change the password later;)

hello any one home?
nad, I am sure that if more free points opportunities come along then folk will post them up, nagging on here about it doesn't help... ;)
By the way there is a chat thread on the main freebies board which saves these threads getting clogged up with irrelevant chat etc...

Nice one! Thanks a lot! Welcome to MSE - your first post is really useful :)
Just spend my points buying wrap 'n mat, RRP £4.25 http://www.greenrewards.co.uk/Images/products/FINAL%20PRODUCT%20IMAGES/Product%20images/Onya/WrapnMat_ging.jpg
Most energy saving bulbs are 810 points - so free with this offer too :) Or you can spend your points on carbon offsetting or han'd made paper with rose petals - all under 1000points :)
I accumulated a few points from some surveys sent by them & Ive just ordered one of these & recieved as it seemed such a great idea & mighty kitch!!
