Free Sky Movies/Sports On Your Computer (free for Sky subscribers)

I've had a search around and I can't see that this has been posted. This is not one of the free channel things that you see posted. This service is offered by Sky. If you subscribe to Sky Sports or Sky Movies already, they are offering a new service for free that will allow you to download full movies or sports highlights to your computer. Make sure you check out the minumum specs before you sign up. This will only work if you use Windows XP.

Here's some info from Sky.......................

Sky by broadband is a new service exclusive to Sky digital customers. It allows you to enjoy hundreds of films on your PC, including a mix of Hollywood blockbusters and classic movie titles available on Sky Movies.

In addition, you can enjoy highlights from many of the major sporting events on Sky Sports.

If you're a Sky digital customer, you can get the following Sky by broadband services at no extra cost:

* Sky Movies, if you subscribe to Sky Movies
1 & 2
* Sky Sports, if you subscribe to Sky Sports
1 & 2

You'll also need to have a PC with Windows XP and we recommend a broadband connection of at least 1MB.

I did sign-up. However, a further browse of FAQs (http://www.sky.com/skybybroadband/faqs) suggests you can only register interest online, but need to register for service from your Sky box (I've disconnected the phone line) and install Microsoft Digital Rights Management (DRM) software:

All you need is your name, address and your Sky digital viewing card number. If you don't know your viewing card number, simply follow these instructions:
- With your TV and Sky box switched on, press the services button on your Sky remote control
- Select option 4, System Set Up
- Select option 5, System Details
- The viewing card number will appear on your TV screen
- Press the Sky button to return to Sky viewing once you have noted the viewing card number

Sky by broadband uses secure peer-to-peer (P2P) technology, powered by Kontiki, to distribute Sky Movies and Sky Sports videos via the Internet. Once a movie or sports video has been downloaded, Microsoft Digital Rights Management (DRM) software will prevent unauthorised viewing and will automatically delete the movie or sports video from your PC once your license to view it expires.

Do you know if you can 'back-up' the movies and sports to disc.

I assume not because of WDRM

So even if backed up, you won't be able to watch it. It depends how long the lcence lasts (for a few days, or as long as you have a subscription to Sky).
