hi i have fibroids, just a few small ones, ive been offered various things eg coil etc but my doc says coz theyr small about 2cms (i think) not really worth doing much at this point as theyre so small, on tablets to help with heavy (for me)bleeding by taking 1 a day on period and it does help, what i wondered is if theres anything i can do myself to reduce them eg, herbal etc
doc says coz im 47 yrs old its just to get me through to the menopause then they;ll start dissapearing. must admit this works ok as i dont want the coil or surgery, id rather try self help if i can find out what to do.
thanks

The mirena coil is marvellous for fibroids, heavy periods. Please dont dismiss the idea out of hand. Im 44 and on my 5th (and possibly last one now) and the relief from the pain and the cessation of bleeding is a god send

MEDICAL ADVICE
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it’s not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=31048) on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com (abuse@moneysavingexpert.com).

I went the alternate route to sort out my fibroids. I am doing acupuncture and taking Agnus Castus (natural hormone regulator) which you can buy at Holland & Barratt.
My fibroid was diganosed in 2005 and was 2cm. However it had grown to 5.5cm by 2008 causing me to have heavy periods lasting 14-21 days.
Thanks to the above my period is down to 7 day.
I did try the pill at first but I just bled and I didn't feel myself at all so wasn't keen on trying other prescribed hormone treatments.
Alternative treatment are good on fibroids which are very small. However like the blog above, the mirena coil could work as well. You need to find what works for you.
I suggest you get some books out in the library. There is some good information in them. I recommend you get the following:-
'What your doctor may not tell you about fibroids, new techniques and therapies - including breakthrough alternative to hysterectomy by SC Goodwin, M Broden and D Drum'
I hope this helps.
