Yes, you need to be a customer, because they charge your account/phone number

cbfsms.com allows up to 137 characters.

check the website for your own sim network.. most offer free web texts via their sites..

If you register at Rok student (http://www.rokstudent.com) all new users get 20 free texts per day, i use this site daily and have not had any problems. it is a student site but I dont see why you would be stopped from signing up if you were not :p

I dont send many texts from the net but a while back o signed up to the free ones on the O2 website if memory serves me right you only get 30 a month but htey are reliable and you dont have to be an O2 customer.

I think it's only 10 free a month now. You can buy texts as well and they work out cheaper. I use to use them regularly when you had 30 free text but not so much now.

Where the number is not a UK mobile phone but a 5 digit number (I think they always start with 8) like the one for BBC 5 Live - 85058

most probably not, as these are premium rate texts. anyway, the free text sites wouldnt make money off these as the recipient is a business.
