Hello

As the title suggests i'm having my implanon removed next week.

It's done nothing but play havock with my skin, my weight and my moods. I've had it in for a year but does anybody know what the procedure will be like to have it removed?

I'm 27 and previous to this I was on the injection. I've not had a period for three years! Time to have a hormone-less body for a few months. What will my periods be like if and when they return?

I'm not in a relationship at the mo so i'm not worrying about contreception for a while.

Thanks Louise

I had my implant removed and a new one put in acouple of weeks ago. i too was quite nervous but it was fine they numb your arm first and i felt nothing but a small tugging sensation. the whole thing took less than ten minutes and that was having a new one in the same place. i took painkillers before i went though and again in the morning when it was quite sore. myn left a small hole but this has now healed and is just a small scar.
dont worry it will be fine.

Like you, i had mine in and it messed with my weight and moods and I had it removed 2 months ago. They numb it, you will feel a little sting but nothing bad and then they will cut a little wholw (u cant feeling this) and then they hook it out. U cannot feel it, it doesnt hurt. Mine was stuck though and my inside of my arm was coming out and it has left a scar - but it didnt hurt

Oh dear I'm dreading getting mine out when I have to (I'm afraid of needles though). I've got about 8 months left on it but I'm thinking of getting it out early as I'm not happy about the hormones really. This is the first time I've had hormone contriceptive and although it is fine (no weight gain, no real problem with spots, very small mood swings etc) I'm not overly happy having something so artificial in my body.

As others have said loubie_lou from what I've read it is just the same as having it put in but taking it out. They will numb it in the same way after making sure of where it is and should only take 10 mins. It's not overly scary if you just remind yourself it'll be very similar to the procedure that put it in in the first place.

I wish you all the best.

Hi everyone I've had one removed and another put back in :)

They numb the arm and make a small slit where the implant is and then slowly pull it out, then they put some paper stitches on and bandage your arm back up :)

It doesnt hurt I promise! And she made a right dogs ear of taking mine out (cut it in the wrong place) but a few days after you will get a bruise like what you had when you had it put in. Just keep it clean and it will be ok :)

If you need any more advice just pm me :)

I did have some problems though that I was still bleeding with it in quite badly so i've been to the doctors and got the yasmine pill its brilliant i dont get spots and i dont bleed either yay!

But i do still have my implant in i know thats really naughty but got no choice.

hi, I was one of the first to have this & got pregnant on it... long story but I am a contaception nightmare- anyway they rushed to get it out tiny injection to numb, tiny cut- took 10 mins and it was all done. unfortunately lost the baby a month later, but no long term effects as was blessed with another pregnancy 4 months later that resulted in dd2. so don't be concerned about its removal it is actually completely painless.

I found the removal to be painless. :) I hated being on this, I had so many nasty side effects, depression, heavy nonstop periods, weight gain, bad skin... it was such a relief to have it removed for me, yet I have a friend who loves it and her periods have stopped altogether. just a matter of luck whether your body will like it or not!

I've had my implanon for nearly 7 years I've put weight on but I weigh it up as I useless at taking the pill and the injection doesnt work for me makes me ill etc.

However I have had awful periods not painful but very light lasting up to 4 weeks.

I'm due for another change next year but I will be coming off it and trying something else

Try having the yasmin pill its brilliant i have no spots now and you can take it all the way through. Just set a reminder for everyday on your phone you wont forget it :)

I had mine taken out not so long ago, it was actually worse going in that it was coming out, i did need a stitch to keep the cut closed and it took 15 mins to get out but healed very quickly and had no pain or much swelling after.

Had mine out last week, will never have it again as it made me moody, spotty and made me bleed for weeks on end.

I have to say it was painless and quick though. All you feel is slight tugging and from what i can see of my arm i only have a tiny scar.

Hi i'm getting my implant taken out next week, i have had it in for 8 months and have been on a period for the last 6 months everyday.
I have suffered serious mood swings, aggression, depression, crying for no reason, weight gain, acne, bloating, headaches almost everyday.
obviously im glad it hasnt made me pregnant but I wouldnt recommend it as it has made me so ill and made my body hate me ha.

You guys who did have it removed - did you go to your GP? I had mine originally inserted at a sex health clinic, but I've since moved. I'd love to get it down at the local surgery, as it's just across the street! :D Just wondering if GPs generally do this sort of thing?

aless02- I had to go back to the family planning clinic I'd originally had it inserted in to have it removed as I'd moved and neither my GP nor my new local FP clinic dealt with Implanon. This was back in 2000 or so when it was a fairly new thing so maybe more GP's do it now though? Probably worth phoning up and asking as you might sbe lucky and save yourself a journey!

I found the removal really easy, not very painful at all- and it was such a relief to have it out as I'd had horrible side effects too!

please can anyone help.

I had my implant put in when i lived in England but since then have moved to Bulgaria. Had my implanton removed four weeks ago at one of the hospitals. Since having it removed i seem to be going crazy, getting palputations, tummy churning, feeling hot. Could it be my hormones backfiring on me or something else. Please anyone else felt like this

Thanks Steph for you reply. Your mum and dad will love it over here as will you when you come in May.

Quick update, took a bulgarian friend who speaks good english to the docs last night cause i couldnt take anymore. The doc has given me tablets for the anxiety attacks and took blood to check my hormone levels, will get results back Thursday.

I've booked an app to get the implant out. Got an app tomorrow to "talk it through" Hello! Just rip it out!
I've had nothing but problems, I got it put in 6months ago, and have not had ONE day where I've not bled, my breasts have started leaking milk but the final nail is the acne I've gotten all over my cheeks. It's horrible!!

I liked the reassurance of not having to worry about getting pregnant, and forgetting the pill etc, but I've had enough now. They better give me diannete to clear up the acne too *crys*
