£112 for a filling!!!!!!!!

My wife had an ordinary white filling, nothing unusual, which cost £112 (private). That didn't include anything else, not even the preliminary check-up as that was paid prior to that appointment. As normal procedure, she asked for a full receipt to claim 80% back from Tesco dental insurance. The price on top was £112, but that had been 'tippexed' over £92 underneath - held up to the light it's clear. Is she and Tesco being ripped off?

its a normal price for a large white filling. remember youre not just paying for the material and the dentst but the nurse, electric, sterilizing the equipment etc, if you think youve been charged wrong why not ask?!

Could be many reasons - Might have been they thought it was an amalgam filling, but then realized it was a white one. Could just have read the wrong column on the price list.

Surely your wife has been given a costed estimate for the work she needs? You really should KNOW how much everything is going to cost. I'd make sure they give you one if I were you.

Whatprice doesn't really understand the pricing of dentistry. There are too many variables to give meaningful averages.
