Hiya,

I have a 1996, Ford Escort GhiaX. A couple of months ago, the windows started playing up. When id put them down, they wouldnt go back up! instead they would put themselves all the way back down again! Eventually they went back up. Until one day they wouldnt come back up!

I called the RAC, and they ended up manually feeding the windows up again, but had to disconnect the window motor to prevent them from going back down again!!!!

Its a pain not having any 'working' windows!!
Can anyone tell me what could be wrong, how to fix, and how much money it might be to fix?

Thanks

Assuming motor is OK and mechanism is OK. It sounfds like a job for an auto electrician.

The price of that is like asking how long is a piece of string. But if you are reasonably hamdy check the wires from switch and motor for any breaks or bad connections it might be fairly simple.

Otherwise get an auto electrician and ask him to have a quick look (30 mins), if no joy ask him if it's worth the effort and what he thinks.

Might be worth posting on one of the Ford owners website forums. I had a similar problem (different make) which was caused by disconnecting the battery to replace it. I got a reply straight away on how to reset the windows, sunroof etc.

could just be a faulty switch

test it with a multimeter and/or replace the switch
