Just heard Nick Robinsons interview with Gordon Brown, usual waffle from GB about raising deposit gaurantee to £50k so as Irish are now offering unlimited gaurantee may be time to move savings to Irish banks. Anyone got any recommendations/experience of accounts and what are the best rates available both for instant access and 9-12month terms.
Thanks

Have a look at Anglo Irish first. They seem to be the most inyerface and competitive.
The rest are the usual big, slow, High St fare.

Take yer pick :
Allied Irish,
Bank of Ireland,
Anglo Irish Bank,
Irish Life and Permanent,
Irish Nationwide Building Society
Educational Building Society.
Edit :
From the Telegraph....
The safest place for your savings: The Post Office
Savers at the Post Office now have 100 per cent protection for their deposits - no matter how much - following the decision by the Irish government to guarantee all bank accounts.

Anglo Irish Bank Instant Access pays 6.40%, and their 1 year fix is 7.05%
Bank of Ireland @ Post Office have a 6.25% ISA
Worth checking if the other banks are covered as I think they are UK subsidiaries and Robert Peston said these were still subject to negotiation

Has anyone thought about the tax implications of this?
