Hi, not sure if this is the correct plcae to post this, and cant find anything on the internet that answers my question.

Around 5-6 weeks ago I had some new brakes fitted on my car (Vauxhall Astra). Since then the car has been vibrating slightly, but only when driving about 70mph. Today I was driving along and the tyre burst. When I changed the wheel, I found that the tyre and an area about 3 inches long, 1 inch wide along the inside edge of the tyre, that had worn down, through the metal wiring and through the cloth, almost as if it had been dragged along the road. I put the spare on and am taking the car back into the garage tomorrow to get a new tyre put on. Question is, what could cause the type of damage to my tyre, and could it be related to me have new rear brakes fitted?

Any advice would be greatly appriciated

If it doesn't go around the entire circumference of the tyre I would be thinking in terms of how well the wheel bolts had been done up and how well the brake disc is fitted.

Could be a suspension component rubbing the tyre Bear in mind contact may only be made when the steering is in a certain position.

If it has worn against something on your car then wear marks should be immediately obvious on the car. Personally I'd guess that the tyre was faulty and blistered, and the damage you now see the result of the blowout.

I agree with PewPew, it sounds like a bead has broken on the inside edge of your tyre.
Did you hit a pothole or something in the road before it started vibrating?
Was it a budget tyre?

If you get a vibration like that ever again, get it checked! You were lucky no-one got hurt.
