Just a word of warning. If the offer specifys that you must specify a certain number of words you must be careful that you do. They are really picky and will send all the paperwork back if you get it wrong. I have had my application returned by Glist (dishwasher tablets) and Amoy (chinese sauce).

So for Try Me Free offers, what do you say when you write to them?
Also do you need to enclose the receipt too?
Or just a wrapper??
Sorry I'm still learning with all this money saving! lol
It depends on the conditions of each particular offer. !Read all the conditions on the packet very carefully and make sure you comply with it completely as they may send your application back otherwise.
Some offers have minimum word limits, others have maximum etc.
Most offers require you to send back the original receipt so pay for items seperately if you're lucky enough to spot more than one in a shopping trip.
Happy hunting!

Send in promo flash from front of pack, the 4 bottle tops, plus an explanation in 15+ words what you thought of the beer. Refund "up to £3.99" - but since they don't ask you to send the receipt, they probably won't know what you paid anyway! Cost was £3.38 in Tesco. Closes 31.03.06.

Hi
I saw the Jordans TMF in Tescos yesterday but didn't buy it as I didn't think anyone would eat it - I am allergic to nuts so it is no good for me.
Anyway DH says he likes it but I don't want to go back now. I thought maybe I would have a go at gettting in with my online shop. I thought if I put in a special instruction to get the TMF box it should work.
Has anyone tried this? And do you think it would be acceptable to send the receipt you get when they deliver the order?
Karen
Dog owners.
A taste guarantee one, not true TMF + 25p coupon on side of the pack
Bakers complete, all flavours. Cereal box size (can't remember the weight now)
"110% money back if the dog food isn't doggylicious"
I had a long chat with my dog and she decided she didn't like it as the moist chunks were quite dry. She dictated what I should write in the 15 or more words to claim the money back.
Offer ends Feb 06.
Apparently, PetsAtHome is the most expensive place for this (as the offer is for 110% moneyback!) ;)

Just found these in Morrisons today, very pleased with myself until I realised husband is on call for a week so its a alchol free zone and I need the 4 bottle tops!
Oh well something to look forward to.
Seem to have done most of the try me free offers now, only got 7 on my list to find

Got my cash back this morning from Jordans muesli, £3 in coins plus a 20p coupon. Thought I'd do another in my Dads name as its a refund in cash but , although our Tesco has plenty of boxes on Monday, today, all gone, not even a space for them. Just hope that they have not stopped stocking them.
Our Sainsburys has stoped stocking the seriously strong cheddar with the try me free stickers. I did see smaller packs in Somerfield about three weeks ago but if they are gone as well tommorow I might write to them. The cant get me addicted to their cheese and then stop supplying me!

I tried to get my pearl drops in Boots today but no packs seem to mention the money back. I assume its just the basic pearl drops? I really want the one to use with electric toothbrushes. Do you think it matters which pearl drops you buy. I think you need the receipt and bar code?

You must have bought your box when the special offer was on at Tesco, think it was half price.
Its swings and roundabouts really. I've never been able to find the Yeo Valley, nowhere around here seems to stock it And the seriously strong cheese stickered packs have vanished as well...

The money back guarantee is for "Hollywood Smile" pearl drops. On the box it has a silver flash on the bottom that says 2 shades whiter teeth in 3 weeks* and on the back it says for whitness you can acutally measure or your money back. Hope this helps, think its a general offer at the moment and all boxes feature it. Yes you need the receipt and bar code.

Got the Typhoo in Tescos today (very welcome as I'm almost out of Clipper).
There is a 25p off voucher on the pack I bought too. Worth noting that there are actually two different offers on the pack (on opposite ends), one being the "refund if not absolutely safisfied, just return pack and contents", and the other being the taste challenge (send pack top, name and address and so on). There are no special flashes on the pack.
Also BEWARE! You have to explain in *not more* than 15 words why you don't like the tea, so it's different from the usual essay style. I will probably explain that it's not as nice as Clipper, which is the brand I will use when I eventually get back to paying for my cuppa.

Had a good TMF day today, due to going to Asda for a change. Found the Palmolive deodorant (been looking for this for months!), Warburton's bread, El Paso tortillas and V8 juice, again (this is BOGOF in Asda! Also the Citrus variety doesn't taste too bad).
Just had a look through the Palmolive T&Cs and it says the refund is £2.19 (not £2.19 maximum). I only paid £1.99, so does that mean I profit 20p?

I found the Old El Passo (sp) wraps today, I had to take the box on the front of the shelf to get them though as they are newer and so had been put to the back. You get 8 in a pack too which is cool, it means we will get a few meals out of them. Now I just have to go and cook up a big batch of chilli, yum yum.

Spotted another 'cheesy' one today. Exactly the same sticker design as the Coeur de Lion Pie d'Angloys one I mentioned above, so maybe more TMF offers will appear on other cheeses in the range too. Worth keeping an eye out! This one's on Creme de Saint Agur, in a small hexagonal plastic pot. Found mine in Morrisons. Usual 15+ word statement required (good or bad), sticker, SAE and receipt to MKM within 14 days of purchase. Final c/d 06.01.06. Max refund £1.49. I'm afraid you do need the sticker - you have to fill in the tiny form on it.

I received my St Agur refund today, along with a customer survey from MKM. I don't know if everyone will be getting one, or whether I was randomly selected... although the cynic in me wonders why my application "just happened" to be turned around in only 5 days when they're asking about speed, satisfaction etc. .
Some rather humourous questions - how clear / complicated were the instructions, how inclined would I be to reapply if my first application was rejected for some reason, how 'onerous' I found having to write the 15 word statement etc. Trouble is, you just KNOW that this is a 'survey in reverse', and that they'll only be really satisfied if they get lots of "very difficult to understand, and far too complicated to bother applying" answers :p .
I'll be replying in the comments box along the lines of "it's a shame that you deliberately build in so many hurdles to actively discourage people from applying for your offers" . Perhaps if we all did the same, they might take notice. Then again, they'll probably consider it a badge of honour :( .
r u sure they're not trying to catch out multiple applicants in some way?

Smid very interesting comments,MKM are supposed to be dealing with the tesco tmf fish offer. They have taken a lifetime and still no reply!!! And they will do anything to try to get out of paying the money back you are owed, so yes I agree from this company a 5 day turn around is a joke and they are obviously trying to get some good feedback from somewhere!!!!!!!11

Absolutely agree! It's only because we took the trouble to get the money back that made it a genuine offer!

Got a question as well, actually... I managed to misplace a TMF cheque :o (for Danone yoghurts), so was wondering if I should ask them if I could have another cheque?

You've got nothing to lose.
In theory they could check if you have cashed it and if not reissue one.

Don't know whether it's the same as the WW Mousse offer above, but I found an identical offer on WeightWatchers Creamed Rice twinpacks in Asda today. Same closing date, claim limit etc. - and a generic "WW Try Me For Free Offer" as the first line of the address, so the 'one claim per household' rule might limit you to claiming on just one WW product.
Also found the Kallo SO crispY mentioned above in Asda in case anyone is interested - but in the special dietary aisle rather than with the normal snacks.

Jars and cartons of Horlicks (original and chocolate varieties) - 'sleep better with horlicks or your money back !' (you have to use it for two weeks and then apply)Strange one this according to the T&C's:
1) Closing date for claims 01/05/06
2) On a plain piece of paper, in a minimum of 15 words, let us know how you try to get a better night's sleep. Send us your thoughts with your name, address and original till receipts to: Horlicks Sleep Challenge, Department Number 4205, PO Box 99, Aylesbury, Bucks HP19 8RR
3) Till receipts must be dated 01/01/06 - 31/03/06 and represent 14 servings of Horlicks. The recipt receied must be at least 14 days old to show that you have undertaken the Sleep Challenge.
4) Only one application per stamped envelope.
5) This offer is open to all residents in the UK over 16 years of age.
6) Please allow 28 days to receive refund cheque.
7) This does not affect your statutory rights.
So, from what I can see, as long as you include one application per envelope, it is dated before 31/03/06 and you leave 14 days before applying you can claim as many purchases of Horlicks as you like! Also, as there is no requirement to return packaging or labels you do not need a promotional pack to claim, just the details shown above and a receipt for at least 14 servings of Horlicks.
What do you think the chances of this working out are or is it another Daz/Vince's Milllions in the making?

Say's on carton to ring the freephone number listed (0800) to claim your money back. I havn't tried this one yet so cant say how this one'll work, they'll probably ask you to post receipt, so hang on to em. Enjoy!

This one has actually been around for donkeys. :) As far as I can recall, you don't need to send in the receipt but you do need to have the pack handy as they ask for a code from it when you phone in.

I know a while back there was a discussion about this offer.
On friday i phoned up typhoo as i hadn't recieved my money back and "sue" at customer relations said the company handling the offer were useless.
This morning i recieved a voucher for £3 in the post !!
A tidy profit of £1.67!
The moral of the story is, if you are waiting for your money back don't bother call 0800 0327111 and tell them you are waiting and see what they can do for you.
It's worth a free phone call!!!

Am a newbie to the TMF thread so have a couple of questions:-
1. If you are buying multiple TMF products at the same time - am I right in thinking you need to get seperate receipts to send off? No longer confused - just read early posts and can see you do need seperate till receipts.
2. Have seen on here 'as seen on Bobs' who's Bob? Is this another site - if so can I have a link too please.
This is fantastic, with Boots bargains, Tesco misprices (not that I've found any yet) and TMFs, might not have to go back to work after all! :T :T

Anyone claimed this yet?
The jar I bought was the largest on the shelf, still with the yellow sticker on.
It's a bit cheeky if they claim to make your sleep better, so you buy a big jar under false pretences, and they only give you your money back for 14 servings when your sleep hasn't improved (which it hasn't, if anything, I've had some really wierd nightmares which I shan't go into here...!).
Just wondered what I shuld expect when my cheque is finally in the post.

Sorry if this is really old hat and on here loads, but you can't escape those 3 beutiful words "no purchase neccessary" (mmmmmm) this is particularlyhelpful for scratch off competition type things from mcdonalds/burger king etc. They say "get your free scratch card when you buy a large whopper meal" just go to the counter and say something along the lines of "Hi, according to the smallprint each customer is entitled to one free scratch card with no purchase neccessary (they have to give you one by law as otherwise it becomes a lottery and they have to pay a huge lottery license fee cant give to under 16's and so on) you may not win every time but if you go in every day and ask for one, you cant loose.
At uni they were giving away similar things with pints of carling, between 7 of us asking each member of staff for a free voucher, we must have "won" around 20 pints of carling, score
Nearly every competition has this, but many you have to send your details off to somewhere and they sned you the freebie in the post
Happy hunting

If you don't think it's the best tasting lasagne sauce, let them know in more that 15 words, enclosing a receipt, etc etc. You also have to tell them the name of the sauce that you think is better. It's a Freepost address you send it to. :)
Until end of May, I think. (Didn't buy it myself this time, so am writing this from memory...:o )
Saw it in Tesco for about £1.08.
(Didn't check to see if perhaps other Knorr sauces have the same promotion... worth a look for those who don't buy lasagne).
An update: Ragu Bolognaise sauces (there's several varieties: Spicy, Original, etc etc) are also included. Don't think you need a special pack either (I can post the address here if anyone wants it). :)
Finally got my Weight Watchers and Twinings cheques. The Twinings came with a customer satisfaction survey from MKM (think someone here has had one before). Should I tell MKM what I really think about them...

Finally found the pasta - am usually a Tesco shopper but went in to Asda today and found it there so it probably is an Asda only one - think OP may have said that.
Also, it took ages for my local Tesco to get the Twinings in with the red flash so keep checking - they may just need to bring out more stock.

For the Ragu, it asks you to explain on a postcard - do you think a sealed down envelope would be ok (it was ok for Blue Peter years ago!).

Whenever TMFs ask for a postcard, I usually use a postcard-size bit of plain paper. Never had problems with that. :)
I mean, what's the point of asking for a postcard if you can't send them just a postcard, as you've got to send them receipts etc...

Yep, that's what I meant - if it asks for a postcard, I use a postcard-size bit of paper and stick it in an envelope. :) As you said, you can't exactly attach receipts to it otherwise. :D

Hi TMF people :)
Just been to Wilkinsons where I picked up:
- 1001 Spot Shot for carpets
- Ambi Pur refill (and new light sensor fragrance diffuser which was free with the refill....so both will be free!)
- Bugs Away anti-bacterial surface cleaner.
I couldn't find this listed elsewhere on the thread, apologies if it is a duplication. You need to look for a cardboard sleeve which states:
New!
Kills bacteria, even MRSA
Money Back Guarantee!
"If for any reason you are dissatisfied with Bugs Away please send this collar along with your name and address, your original till receipt showing the purchase of Bugs Away, and a statement explaining the reason why you were dissatisfied in no less than 15 words to..."
Does this mean I've found, all on my own, my first TMF offer? I'll be ever so proud if I have :j

'Try Me Free' on 4-pack bottles of Coors Fine Light Beer. Big blue 'Try Me Free... 4 bottles on us!' strip along the top of the pack. Found mine in Asda, cost £3.38.
Closes 31.10.06. One application per household. You just need to complete and send the coupon inside the pack to claim. No statement etc. required nor - strangely - a till receipt by the looks of it. The coupon just asks for the price you paid - and helpfully suggests that the RRP is £3.29, with a maximum refund of £3.99.

Just wondering wether it might be worth starting the "try me free" thread again. The first posts date from April 2004 so the first few pages are out of date? Perhaps we could have a sticky at the start like the Boots thread with just the product name and closing dates?

It's not a dumb question really - we on this thread sort of take it for granted that everyone should know how these offers work, but I've only just now realised there is no guide to TMFs here :)
Basically, the products listed on this thread have a Try Me Free or Money Back Guarantee promotion, meaning that we buy the product and later receive the money back (usually in form of a cheque, sometimes Postal Orders or even cash). Sometimes you get your postage paid for as well.
These promotions only run for a certain period of time, that's why a closing date is always mentioned here. It is essential that you buy the product and send off your claim before the closing date.
TMF products usually have a bright flash on the packaging, something along the lines of "Try me free" (very imaginative :rotfl: ). Sometimes you'll see them on the shelf with TMF-less products and you have to make sure you pick up the flashed product in order to enter.
Each TMF promotion has its own terms & conditions, which are always printed on the packaging (in annoyingly small print). You have to make sure you read through it and follow it to a letter - they are usually very strict!
Most TMFs have very similar T&Cs. You almost always have to send them the original receipt, and very often a brief statement of what you liked/disliked about the product (you will always be told what they want to know in each promotion).
TMFs are always (or maybe 99.999999% - anyone remember the cheese one a couple of years ago?) one per household, so you can only get your money back for one product. If you have another address you can use (parents, in-laws, friends, even work maybe), you can buy more than one, just make sure you buy them separately and with separate receipts (and make sure no-one at the other address is a compulsive TMFer :D).
The most important thing is to remember to stick to the T&Cs. Sometimes, companies think of completely bizarre things to ask... you might have to cut bits off the packaging, send a certain-sized bit of paper, only in black ink, whatever .
You are supposed to receive your refund within 28 days usually, but this varies a tremendous amount. Anything between 4 days are 2 months is normal.
I personally think TMFs are great: they often give me a chance to try a new product or a product I might not normally buy. Or sometimes it's for stuff I would've bought anyway, so it's really nice to get ot for free!
Being a sad person that I am :o, I've had all my TMFs on a spreadsheet since I started on MSE (well, I use more that one address so I have to keep checking whether I've had my refunds for everything), and at the moment, I've got 102 products on my list - that's probably over £200 worth of free stuff :D
Anyway, hope this explains it a bit - do ask if there's anything else that is confusing. :D

There was some discussion previously as to whether a post card was required or not for this one. On the T and Cs it states that a postcard is to be used and the receipt attached - is it OK to fold the receipt up (it's about 9 inches long, got all my week's shopping on!) and staple it to the pc?
What have others done about this?

They must have someone illiterate doing them, as mine was spelt wrong as well!
I've thrown away the label, but I think this was paid by postal order? My bank wouldn't accept it being paid into my account, but I cashed it without a problem at the Post Office - they don't ask for ID and you don't even have to sign for it - and for £1.07 it's not worth the hassle of trying to get a new one sent?

Yellow sticker found on Glist 5 Complete dishwasher tablets in Asda. You have to state in no less than 15 words why you are not satisfied with the product. Send the yellow sticker with your name and address plus your till receipt and they'll refund the price of the product up to a maximum of £8.82 including second class postage. Anyone know if this is still on? Looked in my local Asda today but did not see anything on any of the Glist 5 boxes. Really super TMF to find if I can still do it.Morrisons in Horsforth, Leeds have them - yellow sticker about 3cm across
You must think I'm miserable and demanding, but I didn't like these either! The lemon ones turned my glassware milky coloured within a week.
I am beginning to think they do this in lieu of any consumer testing. Shall I suggest they bypass the store, send it to my house, and I tell them direct why I'm not keen??
Better hunting, folks

You probably have to keep your receipt and send the label from it to them or something like that.

Typical, I thought Cravendale was an ice cream. Was searching all up and down the ice cream isle looking for it today. Just realised it's a milk. Nevermind, I will look again tomorrow.

Also, been to Wilkinsons today and found Glist money back guarentee packs on BOGOF. Bought two packs for £5.49, so should get back £5.49 and have 60 dishwasher tablets for nothing! :D
It was better than that - bought 60 tablets for £5.49 and got a cheque today for £6.20! :D
I do love it when these things work!

Found a new one today on Actimel yogurt drink Limited Edition Coconut Flavour - 'love the taste or your money back'. Found mine in Morrisons, cost £2.34. If you don't like the flavour, send the usual 15+ statement, barcode from the pack (coconut variety only), and till receipt. Closes 31.10.06.
And another one to look out for, or even put in your diary if you're really organised... according to The Grocer trade magazine, special 'try me free' bottles of Minute Maid Froot Refresh drinks will be in stores during August.

Do you need to put stamps on these returns? Or do they get there anyway? (Sorry - new to this thread!)

The Porkinsons sausages are in packs of 6 or 8 (can't remember which) and are the traditional size of packet for sausages ie packed in two rows of 4. They are not frozen so should be in the fresh meat and sausages section. They are packed in a cardboard box, beige in colour, with (from memory) a line drawing of an old fashioned butcher. Porkinsons flash is burgandy colour. (sorry, this is from memory as I no longer have the box)
I've also spotted the Try Me Free on Cravendale strawberry (bet this would be much nicer than the vanailla one)
And yes, unless the address is a Freepost one (some are but not usually) then you do need to put a stamp on (I always use 2nd class). Most (not all!) offers will refund the cost of the product as well as the postage.

Hiya Karen
When I bought the WD40 pen in May it said the closing date for claiming was the 31st May, so it might be late. I haven't seen any of the cardbourd sleeves on the spray for a while, sorry but you might have missed this one.
Keep looking for others though :)

I finally found the vanilla yesterday and the t+C say "one per household on A hint of..."
To me this implys 1 TMF across the whole "a hint of..." range.

Found a couple of new ones today.
The first is on Port Salut cheese slices (found mine in Sainsbury's) - a TINY blue 'satisfaction guaranteed or your money back' sticker on the front. Send the promo sticker, 15+ statement and till receipt to claim up to £2.39 back. Closes 31.10.06, one claim per h/hold.
The second one is not a "true" TMF, but is near enough so here goes....
Promotional packs of Birds Eye SteamFresh vegetables (found mine in Morrisons) have a "Buy Me and Try a Meal Free" sticker. You must send the application form on the back of the sticker, along with a till receipt showing your SteamFresh vegetables purchase AND a SteamFresh frozen ready meal, and they'll refund you up to £1.99 plus 23p postage for the meal. If you can't buy both items together, separate receipts are acceptable. This one closes 30.09.06, one per h/hold.

It's a French cheese, tastes a bit smokey. And looks like Edam in its un-sliced version, except with an orange skin instead of red. The packs of slices continue the 'orange' theme, orange being the colour of the pack!
Also, I've just noticed that although the maximum refund is £2.39, the pack only cost £1.35 in Sainsbury's. I didn't notice any special offer flagged up, so this might mean that there are larger packs out there with the offer on too (my pack is 120g).
