Hi there!

Just home and noticed a load of hair trailing out the exhaust, I googled it and worked out its the back box needing replaced, so my question is will it be ok til the car is in the garage in about 2 wks time or is it something needed replaced straight away? Will it wreck the car somehow?

Also is this an expensive job? Car is a vectra estate but that probably doesn't mean anything:confused:

Thanks for any help xxx

It will be OK to drive, just maybe a bit louder. Rip the 'hair' out with gloves on and bin it, but it wont harm the car. The back box price I can only speculate will be £60ish (unless its an Irmshire *sp?* system, in which case that will double!).

Thanks for the info! My husband pulled it out thinking it was someones idea of a joke!:D

That price isn't too bad actually but I suppose when they add labour on thats when you see the difference but its still good to have an idea!

cheers again!!

Well the MOT is a wk on Thursday so in 2 minds if to mention it or leave it til the whole of Inverness can hear us!;) Someone I was talking to tonight said her one did exact same thing and they never picked up on it with the MOT... will wait and see I think the main thing for us was just incase it wrecked the car somehow but we know now it will be ok.

cheers! x

the mot doesnt test for the stuffing inside the backbox...only if the case is rusted through or or its extremly loud will they fail it

you might get lots more use out of it until it dies ...if your trying to save a few ££ leave it and see how it goes

Would they pick it up on the emmisions? (spelling??) then again that probably depends on how far gone it is eh?...gotta be honest it would be good if we got a wee while longer out of it, its only a year and a half old (the part not the car) but hey these things happen I suppose!

I swear the car is cursed! The petrol tank was leaking one day really badly its a wonder we didn't explode, got it fixed as in a brand new one and 2 days later when we filled it right up it was leaking again!:rotfl: These things happen to test us.....or kill us one of the two!:D
