Hi all,
What is the name for the treatment where you tap parts of your head, face, and body.
Also has anybody had any positve results doing this?
Thanks all.

Emotional Freedom Technique. (EFT) Yes it works. Google it you can learn it for yourself or find a practitioner who can help you!

EFT yes it works but it is actually complete bolox. There is no actual theory behind it apart from belief. I sometimes use it on some patients when Im bored but my version which works just as well is slightly different in the areas tapped. The point is the persons belief in the ritual of tapping has already triggered the mind into action.

That is absolute rubbish. EFT originated from TFT ( Thought Field Therapy) and it works on non-believers! I have used it to work with phobias, anxiety and was originally trained in it when I worked in the addictions field to work with heroin addicts. Your perception is that it doesn't work but I have many clients who will testify to the opposite.

FWIW EFT is a diluted rip off of TFT :p

Paul McKenna uses it if that's any help.

I too can get it to work perfectly well but I can break all the rules and still get the same results. I can even get my patients to hum the national anthem as well at the same time as tapping and it still works.

You can hum any tune while doing it.
There are Meridian points all over the body. You are suggesting it is placebo. It works great and I use it with most of my clients for a variety of things.
Paul McKenna uses TFT.

Yes and where is the scientific proof tapping any of these does any good?

Yes

Doesnt mean it isnt a placebo. Placebos work very well at times

Paul McKenna uses TFT.

Paul mckenna uses a lot of things and that doesnt make it good. The best think paul does is marketing and I must say he is terrific at that

I don't really get where science has any real relevance in this. This is therapy not science.

Also I have to say I rather pity your clients if you 'use this when bored'. Shouldnt you be doing your level best to help them? After all they are paying you to do so. If you are bored maybe you are in the wrong game.

Thanks for all the replies.
Puddingpie, I will Google it and see the technique.
Absolutebounder, yes, sometimes things only work by people's belief in them. But when people have nothing to loose by trying something, and it costs nothing in this case, why not try it.

This might surprise you but often these things are less effective when they are free. the currency of comittment unfortunately is money. but as you say if you have nothing to lose why not try it

I had TFT but in conjunction with hypnotherapy for a fear of heights. It worked for me.
I did have a print out of the sequence of 'taps' incase I wanted to use it again in the future but I haven't felt the need.

But how do you know if it works without science? How do you know what would have happened if you hadn't seen the person, or if you just spoke to them, or if you did a sham version of it?

You can only determine if an intervention works by doing trials, which is science. This doesn't only apply to drugs, they do trials in surgery as well. But I won't hold my breath waiting for a paper showing that this works. I'm just glad Prince Charles hasn't got wind of this, otherwise he would be pressing for it to be funded by the NHS.

I can answer this. Sham version works just as well and can be learnt in about 10 mins.

EFT worked for me to come to terms with my 2 miscarriages ( nothing the NHS suggested was helpful) and also for my sister who had very major lifestyle problems.

There are loads of resources on the internet about it. Personally I did go see a professional and finally was able to find peace regarding my lost pregnancies.
