Landrover Freelander SE V6 2.5 (02 reg) - good bodywork and interior although the head gasget has gone so it requires a new engine - how much do you think I would be looking at if I scrapped it?? Does anyone know how much I could get ...?
 Cheers for reading!

It doesn't need a new engine if *ONLY* the headgasket is gone.

If it has a good bodywork and interior you might get someone into landrovers to buy it for more than you'd get as scrap. You could try ebay or perhaps looking at landrover forums.

Scrap value I would guess somewhere between £250 and £350.

Just noticed your edit that it's an 02 reg. You'd definitely be better off repairing it or selling it on in its present condition.

Pure scrap value i.e. not selling for parts - probably £200 max, depends on area you live and whether you deliver it or it's collected. You'd probably get more on eBay if you sold it spares or repair.

Thanks for replying and giving me an idea, just had a company quote £950 for taking it off our hands so that sounds like a good deal to me - may try ebay too - thanks for the advice!

Think about how much a 02 2.5 v6 land rover would cost you if you bought one now, and compare that with the cost of a good scrap replacement engine. I think in the end you'll be more than £950 up.

No point in scrapping that. Get a new cylinder head (if required), or reskim, and get it fixed. Its worth much more repaired than it is as scrap.

if some one has offered you £900 as it is i would snap there hands off ,i can not believe how cheap freelanders are now,as it is a v6 it will be in the higher bands of the new road tax and will become unwanted completely when the tax is £455 a year:eek: .

have you had a quote for your cylinder head ?
if repaired its worth around £2000 to £2500 looking at the ones in autotrader

I think close on a grand is about right for the car, it's a good deal.

The V6 is a lot less desirable than it used to be and considering that by thinking about scrapping it, you don't seem too attached to the car?, I would get rid.

Remember it's a V6. and as such has 2 head gaskets, so no point in doing one as the other has suffered exactly the same conditions (most likely) and will be close to failure. Double trouble/cost;) ;) ;) ;)
