Hi I went to see my consultant yesterday, I have chronic asthma and bronchiectasis, and she said they are going to put me on antibotics using them through a nebulisers long term.
Anyway she didnt say where I could purchase one from.
I tried asda pharmacy and they told me that the doctor should supply one.
Just wondering has anyone had any luck getting one not to expensive, and where you got one from.

I will go and see my gp next week the problem I have is the hospital won't have written to my gp by then. Luckily I have a great gp so hopefully something will get sorted.
Many thanks

You will be prescribed one surely if its the delivery method you need for the medication you require?

Ask your GP to prescribe it and take the prescription to the Pharmacy they will give you one

Hi.AFAIK you can't have the nebuliser on an NHS prescription. You can have the medication that goes into the nebuliser but not the actual machine. Some GP surgeries have ones they can lend you.If you have to buy one, ask the GP to write you a private prescription- you will pay the cost of the machine but won't need to pay VAT.

I have bought a nebuliser from this company -

www.intermedical.co.uk/

I found them a very good company. There was a tiny piece of damage on one of the plastic connectors when the machine arrived. I contacted them and they immediately sent a complete replacement pack of all the plastic parts - free of charge.

You don't have to pay VAT if you fill in the VAT exemption form.

I bought mine from a shop that sold mobility items mainly but they had other things as well. I just looked on yell.com and found the shop closest to me. I also didn't pay VAT as it was for my own use and I signed a form to say I was asthmatic.

Morning All thanks for all your help I was pretty sure that I would have to buy one anyway I am going to make an appt for Tuesday and maybe my gp will tell me where I can get one.

Had a look at the links much appreciated.
I have a mobility shop in my town so I can pop in and see if they have got anything there.
Thanks again

Just to confirm what others have said. Nebulisers are not available on NHS prescription. Your GP will have suppliers where they get medical equipment - ask during your appointment. You can get your nebuliser from the same company.

Hi Mr Rush I knew that I would have to buy one that's not a problem it was just where to get one.
You can't put a price on your health. I am seeing my gp next wednesday and hopefully I will be able to purchase one.
I will be glad to feel a bit better than I am feeling at the moment.
Many thanks

Just make sure you shop around for price. I had about a £40 price difference from difference pharmacies and the mobility shop where I eventually bought mine from.

In a bit of a rush but you could try looking at the Asthma UK site. When the hospital was deciding whether to allow my daughter to have one at home (assume they think even a very sensible teenager would abuse it) they said they would supply one.
Good luck.

Pharmacies like this make me so angry - it's not difficult for a pharmacist to get hold of a nebuliser. For some reason unknown to me, items such as nebulisers, blood glucose meters and INR meters are not supplied under the NHS, although the consumables to go with them are. Many pharmacies can order nebulisers in for patients, and you don't have to pay VAT if you fill in an exemption form which they will have. We sell Medix AC 4000 nebulisers for a touch over £100, to give an idea of cost.

Try Lloyds Pharmacy - they have excellent prices and the staff are always great!
