Bought a x type jaguar diesel 2 weeks ago,
I have been to south of france and back and it has been superb, only thing is every other one i have seen seems to be driven by gentlemen of advancing years,
ok i am not young at 38 but i think i am getting old before my time,(ps if any one has a cheap pipe and slippers i might be interested).

Nah, of course you're not. You just have class, I had an XJ6 when I was 32.

Don't let that bother you, if you like it! If people mention old age to you just remind them that at least you can afford one before you really have advanced in years!!!

38 is fairly young for a jag driver...
I know Jag is attempting to make itself appeal more to the 'Young professionals', but you have to start forking out £80k before looking 'super cool' :|

My dad has just bought 2 jags! (think he's having a midlife crisis!) and he's 58. BUT if i could afford a jag and the upkeep i would buy one without a shot! I'm 26 and female! So no def not an old man car! Happy driving!.....
As long as its not the jag that looks like a rover, not a good look.

Well.....a car is about what u want from it and how much u can afford. Age for me is not an issue as to the type of car I drive. If jags do it for u then jags it is.
I've had peugeot 205, corolla, bmw 318is, micra, bmw323 ci and now a 11 yrs old ford fiesta which cost me £600 a couple of weeks ago. I've been driving for 12yrs and have got to the stage where it does not bother me what anyone think of my car.

Jags are cool, I bought my first one at 31 a 4 litre XJ40, sold it this year and now got a 3 litre X-Type Sport and I'm also 38. Get yourself over to the Jaguar World forum, lots of young members there and good fun.

My stepfather has a 1992 XJ6 with V8. Think it's the V8 anyway, I'm not up on my Jaguars. :o
He let me drive it once but it was exceptionally boring as he wouldn't let me go above 30mph. :rotfl:

That will be a straight 6, last of the proper Jags, V8's didn't come out till '97.
I’d be more concerned about the diesel aspect rather than the jag bit:D

I used to have a girlfriend who said she aged 50 years whenever she got in mine, she didn't last very long :D

Am not knocking the Mondeo, or the X Type, both are decent cars, I spent 2 days filming in a jag dealership recently, and none of the customers were under 50.
I wouldnt consider a Jag until I am about 50, although I did become quite attached to a Project Kahn Top of the range XK8R in white and Carbon fibre :D

I always like mine because I could pretend I was a baddie in the Sweeney, even though it was a modern XJ40. I'd love an XJ8 one day. Plenty of people where I work have X Types for company cars and some are even under 40.

the only reason 'old' people are associated with nice cars is because a) it takes you most of your life to earn enough to pay for one and
b) midlife crisis...
BTW I am 37 and I aspire to have a Jag... I think you're using these forums to show off a teensy bit...lol

People who say you're driving an old man's car are nothing less than ignorant and jealous.
They go quiet when you enquire of them the pinnacle of motorised transport to which they subscribe. Usually some faceless eurobox.

I've had those comments for at least the past three years, since I got a Rover 600 (automatic) when I was 23. Thing is the value for money of the Rover 600, primarily getting a 6 year old car that originally cost £25k for £1500 is pretty good! However, I've now progressed to the real deal old man car of a Rover 75! Although it is the top spec, top engine (2.5 V6), so pretty quick. It has ALL the toys, so when my 26 year old friends get in it after being in their 'superminis' it feels like real luxury. Again an 8 years old car originally costing £27k+ for £2k is not bad value for money. Although the running costs are obviously a little higher than a super mini, they are not prohibitively so.
I think my favourite part, and one of the key reasons for changing to the 75 from the 600 is the interior, particulaly the dash - REAL WOOD just looks great :D This is just great when compared to drab plastic dashboards. And I believe this trait is also evident in the Jags.
So no certianly not an old mans car ;)

The way I see it, if it bothers you that driving a particular car puts you in a specific category, then you have the choice whether to have that car or not.
Some positive and negative expamples of this:
I used to drive a Rover 400 diesel. I used get so much stick about it being an OAPs car but I didnt care because I bought it as a 100 mile a day commuter car for pennies with al the extras and good economy.
On the opposite end of the scale are the people who won't buy a Skoda beause of its 80s image, even though they know its pretty much a VW.

Had a loan of anelderly XJ for a while, the ABS warning was on, some of the veneer on the console was peeling, the next MOT was a bit iffy. But what a comfy motor, nearly silent and Soooo smooth. Really nice looking car as well, love the long bonnet and massive boot. Perfectly proportioned.
Dont let anyone have a go. Only worry if you feel the urge to get a camel coat to go with it!
