Obviously age depending but mine is a 2005 MG-ZR and as some of you know it has a pulling problem when i brake, have just had it down the tyre place and they say all is well in regards to tyres, tracking etc but the left hand side brake disk is slightly worn and the drivers tyre is worn and has about 1000k left..

Should i or could i ask for the tyre to be replaced and the disk? as the brakes squeak too or should we have noticed when we bought it..
we didn't take it on a test drive either due to it being right at the back of the showroom and not having time, can he hold this against us?

You should have noticed both when you bought it (and also looked at the spare). The car was (and still is) road legal.

If the car is legally roadworthy, then I would guess that there isn't much you can do.

The fact that the car was at the back of the showroom should be no reason for not having a test drive, or inspecting the tyres.

Take it back and see what they say, is all I can suggest.;)

Why on earth did you buy this car?

You've done nothing but post and moan since you bought it - yet you were raving about it before hand - even after we warned you!

And now you say you didn't test drive it. I'm not sure I have any sympathy. sorry.

If all it needs is a pair of brake discs, a tyre (you could probably swap it for the spare if full size?) and some copper grease on the back of the brake pads to stop the squeak that isn't exactly much wrong.

It'll be something different tomorrow.....

Where to buy matching furry dice and seat covers. Or can we recommend where to get the head gasket fixed.

Yeah but, no but...

Sods Law dictates that the headgasket will go a week after the 3 months warranty (or whatever was agreed) has run out.

Agreed...Not only did she not test drive it, she didn't even know that it had a sunroof until she got it home.

Now why can't I find buyers like this when I am selling a car?;)

Do you know what this site is supposed to be for help and advice not for know it alls like some of you lot above being idiots and thinking you are funny, sarcastic useless opinions should be kept to yourselves.

WE bought the car because we loved it, it is what we were after, right price, they traded in my old one etc..right time right place..

You will soon find with me that i moan at EVERYTHING and tbh yes i do think the car should be perfect for a newish car..wether i was right or wrong to take it on a test drive would not have helped with the prob it has now and i don't regret not taking it out as it is a lovely car.

The sunroof is not a big issue, all i meant was df didnt believe me when i said it had one, it is nice to have one, i wasn't moaning about it?

The brakes squeak when they are damp..so how would they have done that on the test drive i should have done when it was a lovely day?

Im sure most of you have cars and it must be so nice to have had no probs with them and all be perfect..i doubt that's the case but still..oh and wether you think the car is worth it or not is no interest to me as it's my car not yours.

I wouldn't drive a car that pulled under braking. If I were you, that car would be back where I bought it, being repaired.

.

No, it is not us that are the idiots.

You came on here asked for advice ..we gave that to you, you ignored it and went ahead and bought a car that you had not test driven, not even looked at properly and then come on here moaning about a tyre etc. that you can see with your own eyes, and faulty brakes that would have shown up on a test drive.

I think that you need to think again at who the " idiot " may be.

How do you view a car which is a substantial purchase and not notice it's got a sunroof?

And I wish a car which I bought came with tyres with 1000k left :)

Inactive i think you will find the replys were not helpfull, as to the sunroof i am not and havent moaned about it and tbh i wouldn't care wether it had one or not..just said to df on our way home from buying it that it had one and he said he didn't think it did..no real issue or problem there is their as we weren't looking for one?

The brakes i am sorry but you are wrong, i have an issue with it pulling and squeaking when wet , it does not do it unless it is damp, the test drive would not have shown it up, just like this morning it did it when wet and when df took it to the garage he said it was fine as it had dried up..still think i have a right to moan as i don't care what you say no one can tell wether a tyre is ok unless they work at a tyre garage and unless it is blatently worn, and as for the brakes well i wish i was a mechanic like all you lot and id'e have no worries hey! unfortunatly i live in the real world.

ANYWAY it is at the garage being fixed, no real probs but just thought id'e get a bit of useful advise on here..should have guessed the know it alls would pop their head up and start giving me their pointless 'advice'!!

because i didn't care wether it had a sunroof or not, just like i don't care it has electric windows, mirrors, central locking etc as i think they are all a gimmick...but i did check them! and the tyres again i just put what the tyre place told me, i have no idea what depth they have and don't until they go pop!

Sorry but anyone CAN tell by a simple visual inspection whether a tyre is ok just by looking at the tread left on the tyre, if it is down to its last 1000k it is blatantly worn, at most it has only got a few weeks life left.

Hope you have not taken it back to the dealer you bought it from, if they sell cars with dangerous tyres and brakes they sound like right cowboys.

Look out for the treadwear indicators on the tyre. Here's a picture of one.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/images/helpTread_indicator.gif

When the tyre tread has worn to the same level as the indicator, the tyre is illegal.

When the tyre tread has worn to the same level as the indicator, the tyre is illegal.

Not necessarily, sometimes the TWIs are too high 2 - 3mm. To be certain you should use either a purpose made tread depth gauge or a vernier scale.

Also when you look at the TWI you might think it is worn down to it, but you are actually failing it too early, because you don't realise there is still another 0.5 - 0.75 mm still to go.

Legal tread depth is 1.6mm

For some people all the above is not important, as they change their tyres at 3mm anyway. I always go down to the legal minimum, measured myself.

as inactive has already mentioned advise was offered about this car and you never accepted it,so expect the slagging. and you are not really looking for advise, you just want to hear the right things.

at least the car looks good, surely thats all that matters?
doesnt matter if it runs/drives/stops or is infact road legal does it?

I see very little advise other than problems pointed out that i 'may' get with the car to which ALL cars have probs and tbh other posts i have put r.e cars have all had 'don't buy becasue of this that and the other' if i listened to you lot i wouldn't have a car!!

Lauren_1 you must be one of the few women i know who knows a lot about cars, good luck to you unfortunatly yes i am 'one of those drivers' and rely on the garage..bad luck hey?!

I LOVE the car, the probs with the brakes has been sorted and all well, the tyres have 1000k left df's brother said, seeing as i drive it about 6 miles a day it has lots of wear left and unless i have a puncture i should hope it has more than a few weeks left, looking at it, it is not noticibly worn otherwise i would have pointed it out..i am not that daft, although i'm sure you will not agree!

Again for all of those who know it all about cars you should be helping not slating, wether you think i was right or wrong to buy the car really is no business of yours and doesn't change the fact i love it..there is nothing else wrong with it so i am happy!

i'll make sure i go on the MG forum next...least they are helpful!

dont forget low mileage tyres will last less miles than some rep car on the motorway all day long
