Where did you hear about this?
Do you get spammed after you sign up?

1. Is this their 'try for a month' offer?
2. Do we have to call before 30 days to deactivate?

Nick.

Nick A asked:

1. Is this their 'try for a month' offer?

The 30 texts are valid for 30 days. After that the normal charge applies (12p/text)

2. Do we have to call before 30 days to deactivate?

Not on PAYG - if unused in 30 days, then the free ones just expire.

*******************

Note that if you already have the text saver or orange out here service, then you can't go for this offer.

And you have to have some credit on your phone to use the free texts.

I doubt that "Orange Dating" is anything to do with Orange, who are anxious to stop spamming.

(It is unlawful for anyone to send an unsolicited marketing text message)

You can forward any spam messages to 7726 free of charge from your Orange phone, and they will report the companies concerned to the relevant authority.

You can also have your mobile number put on the TPS.

Register your name, address and phone number with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). You can also register your landline number. 28 days after you register your details, it becomes illegal to make a direct marketing call or send a marketing text message to your number.

You can register with the TPS online at HERE (www.tps-online.org.uk)

Just received Orange text confirmation. I now have 30 free text messages to try before 12th August 2004. ;D ;D

I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to this mobile lark...but if i bought one of these 500 free text sims for £4.99 from orange would i be able to alternate with the sim in my present mobile? is swapping the sim cards about recommended - could it damage them? how would the billing work?

What is the free weekend texting on orange all about?

orange have been doing special promotions in various magazines, recently its been Zoo, and the latest was More magazine. Where they had a voucher exchangeable for a free Orange sim card, and when its registered, they set up free weekend texting for 6 months :) Another way to get the offer at present is to buy a phone from an orange shop that costs over 69.99 i think.

Smartasss
14-07-2004, 12:46 PM
Hi Gammo

You could swap SIMs with no problem if your existing phone is on Orange (or is unlocked), otherwise you will need to get it unlocked to accept SIMs from any network. (This isn't a big problem - there are threads on MSE about unlocking).

There is the slight chance that by continually swapping SIMs you might damage the contacts on the SIM, but if this happened, Orange would supply a replacement.

You can get a twin sim holder for many phones quite cheaply which has a switch on it so that you don't have to remove SIMs, just switch between the 2.

There would no affect to your bills doing this, each account would continue independently.

Re: the swapping SIMS over query - surely your phone number would be different if you swapped SIMS (PAYG)?

Smartasss
20-07-2004, 5:06 PM
The phone number in use would be the number of the SIM currently in the phone. (And would change when you put in a different SIM)

Suzz posted this warning (in another thread) about trying to get the free texts when you already have textsaver:

BEWARE - if you have Orange Textsaver on your phone (5 free texts per day), doing this will CANCEL your text saver.

My boyfriend did it & his text saver's gone. There's something in the terms & conditions for textsaver - saying it can't be used with any other offers. Luckily he only had 2 months to run on the text saver.

If you've already done it - you can get a new text saver for £9.99 at The Link. This gives you £5 of call credit and 5 free texts per day for a year.

The only way to tell would be to count up how many texts you've sent since the 30 free ones were applied.

Once that's over 30, then check your balance before and after sending the first text of the day.

Oh Noooooooooooo! :o :o

I might have to send all my texts now just to see if its gone. Boo Hoo.

Maybe if i call Orange they will re=instate it for me.

22-07-2004, 5:55 PM
Don't panic - I can assure you that the try text promotion will not cancel your text saver. If you're text saver stops working it is down to something else, possibly a technicality regarding message centre numbers.
If you have textsaver/out here the centre number should be +447973100979

If you do find your text saver to be not working anymore, contact customer services or call into an Orange shop for help.

Technically, the offer to 'try text' is only open to people who have never sent a text before - however, it seems that texting this number bypasses the checking.

While youre in the Orange shop, ask for a free travel adaptor and when your free texts have run out, claim some free photo messages, video messages etc etc etc the list goes on www.orange.co.uk/try

Anyone who has any particular problems is welcome to e-mail me and I will do my best to help them out.

Just been looking at the "try" section of the orange website and was interested in trying 30 free photo messages, however it says to call in at an Orange shop to do it.

I went past twice and it looked dead busy both times so I decided to use my initiative and try texting "photo" to 1127.

Sure enough, got a text back:

Hello from Orange: Thanks! We will send a text when your 30 free photo messages have been applied. Have fun and get snapping and sending!

I just rang up orange and apparently the 30 free texts do not invalidate your text saver, they just override it at times.

Another thign they said is they are doing an offer for a month of 500 weekend texts for 26 weekends (6months) for a tenner. You have to top up with £10 then they deduct it from that if you ring up customer services (PAYG line)

Still waiting for my free texts-sent a text to orange to 1127 asking how long it would be before they were activated and got a reply saying"thanks you will be notified when your 30 free texts are activated"!

You get the acknowledgement really quickly but they don't seem to be as quick to actually activate the texts-maybe we have swamped the system!

On a ggod point have just come back from the cinema after using my first two for one orange film on wednesday. It was really easy to do I just showed the cashier the orange text-he tapped the number in and my son & I got to see Spiderman 2 for £4.75(not bad when the full price for me alone is £6.00). Thought the film was good if a bit violent in places compared to the first Spiderman. Will do this offer agin as they are heaps of films I want to see!

them 30 text messages are valid for 30 days. you cant have them again but once the 30 days have run out you can have other offers. Theyre called 'TRY' offers. you can have £12 credit to use on the internet... including downloads, £3 credit to use if you re goin abroad, 30 free picture messages, or so much to use video messaging (not too sure how much on that one)

you just need to dial 450 from handset and follow automated service to "EXTRAS ENQUIRY" think its option 1 and option 4. this is free BUT MAKE SURE YOU CHOSE OPTION 1 AT THE START BECAUSE YOU ARE CHARGED FOR THE OTHER OPTIONS.
you will go through to customer service ( COULD BE ME!) and ask them about it

make the most of these freebies... im not even an orange custimer

Sent my txt on 28/02/05, received confirmation and txts credited on 01/03/05, have to be used by 31/03/05. So offer is still working, oh by the way I did check my balance before and after txting, and it was free. But not sure how to keep track of how many free txts I am using, any ideas. :o

When you check your balance, there is an additional message stating how many texts you have left.

By the way does anyone know if you are limited to one set of free texts or not?

Me and my girlfriend decided to do this ages ago and got the initial text that you all are getting, "another text will follow shortly" or something to this affect.

Well that was about 18 months ago and me and the g/f are still waiting.

And can you have two try things at the same time??

I think this is part of Orange's "TRY" promotion!

You get 30 free texts to try for a month and orange then offer text bundles to you after the initial month period is over.

They do have other offers like free GPRS browsing worth £12 and free photo messaging but I don't know the codes for these!!

I've been having the same problem. The website was rejigged last week and it hasn't worked since. The links don't take you to the correct pages.

I contacted orange to let them know and they said I hadn't registered my account online. I replied to them to say I had, and they then said it is a known problem on the website but there is a workaround: click on sitemap, and then 'send a message' and this will work.

Unfortunately, this second link does not exist!

I haven't yet got back in touch with them to let them know.
