Sorry if this has done before guys, but I thought I’d pick your brains about it.

Just got a letter informing me that I was caught speeding by a mobile speed camera in North Wales doing 35mph in a 30mph zone. However, I remember at the time looking down at my speedo at the time and feeling quite smug that I was doing bang on 30.

It’s highly annoying as I’m actually an extremely careful driver, and despite doing 20’000miles per year, I never speed. Any thoughts if I can do anything about this?

Many thanks.

Welcome to MSE

Make sure the notice arrived (or was posted to arrive) within 14 days of the alleged offence. If not, they can't enforce it.

Your best course of action would be to head over to www.pepipoo.com (http://www.pepipoo.com/) as they are the experts who will be able to advise you best. There's an NIP Wizard you need to complete there which will give regulars the info needed to help you out. It may involve asking for a copy of the video. Good luck & keep us updated :)

Thanks for the reply, I'll have a look over there!

A reading of 35 in a 30 is a bit harsh to get a ticket.

It sounds like your speedo might be out. Probably best to get it checked.

I actually had a speedo problem a couple of years back and had the 'speed sensor' changed.

Very annoying, I'd say the speed was hovering around 30, but no more than say 32mph.

As Crabman says, Pepipoo is the place to get chapter and verse on fighting this.

As one of the veterans there (19 "wins" from 23 cases), I can tell you to be prepared for a long battle, possibly lasting many months, with all kinds of distortion of the law from the other side. But if your original assertion is right, and you weren't speeding, the videotape (not just a couple of still frames) should confirm this, and give you a just result.

SPEEDCAM-crazy chief constable Richard Brunstrom is employing a new undercover weapon – a HORSEBOX.

Two officers from his North Wales force hide inside with a mobile camera.
Yesterday it was parked on a straight 60mph stretch of road near Llanrwst.Unfortunately there is no legal requirement for speed camera signs or any mobile units to have fluorescent yellow markings etc. The only legal requirement is for the speed limit signs to be correctly displayed.

Yeah I guess that's the risk. Busy sunday evening, prime time for nicking people who don't really know the area...

There have been cases of laser based systems picking up reflections etc. I'd request info on the exact location of the alleged offence and check whether that's the same location as where you checked your speedo.

You've been caught for speeding 23 times and not been banned??!!

No, only 3 of those alleged offences were mine, and in all three the police, when challenged, were unable to come up with the evidence, so I have zero points.

The others were all on behalf of various friends, relatives, and colleagues, and in the vast majority of cases I was successful in helping them get it thrown out.

No compo claim at all but a guaranteed charge of dangerous driving.

Not if they genuinely believed someone was there pointing a sniper rifle at them ;) :)

Suprised Joe Public even see's it as most cant see a bright yellow speed camera box, and that is something they are supposed to look out for.

A posting which clearly shows the contempt that some police officers have for the general public.

Probably explains why they can't be bothered to get their fat arses out of the canteen when there's a report of a burglary, or gangs of yobs vandalising property. Much easier and safer to target the middle classes.

In your warped little world don't the "lower classes" drive ? strange way you have of labelling people by class, does that mean lower classes which you clearly put other people in only walk and catch buses  .

Why is contempt to say that most drivers wouldnt even see the person in the back ?

Your previous post stated that most members of "Joe Public" fail to see bright yellow speed camera boxes. If you can't see how that is contemptuous, I can't help you.

And as for "warped little worlds", recent events would suggest that these are mainly inhabited by members of the Constabulary. Examples include the man who was accused of assault when photographing yobs outside his house; or the man who was restrained by six officers when he allegedly dropped an apple core; or the woman who was charged with incitement to racial hatred when telling a gang of drunken students to "go home" (two of them were Asian).

Such examples of Police idiocy and political correctness are in the press every day, supporting the view that they are now only there to help collect NuLab's stealth taxes.

@happychappy

In the context of drivers, the middles class is Representative of those who have something to loose, but don't have exceptional means with which to defend themselves. Contrast that with the very rich and/or powerful who can afford fancy lawyers. Then there are the underclass who cant/wont pay the fines and are probably driving illegally or dangerously at any speed.

Much easier for plod to target the average motorist who strays a few mph over the speed limit. He/she is easily bullied into taking their punishment and plod gets a gold star from the home office, who can tell everyone that they're making the streets safer.

As for your contempt for the general public, well thats evident in many of your previous posts. You last statement is so obviously contemptuous of the people that pay your wages that it defies further explanation.
