Hi guys,

I currently have a car that is technically mine although it is my mums name (she gave it to me but I never sorted the log book out etc) and I'm looking to buy a used Honda Civic type-r. Now I have never actually bought a car at all so I have no idea what the procedure is when it comes to trying to part exchange my current car. Also I dont really like the idea of buying privately so I'm looking at buying trade but it seems strange on autotrader since some of the cars I've seen being sold trade are viewing by appointment only and they dont seem to be from an actual forecourt, is this normal?

Anyway any advice would be really appreciated so I dont look a right plank when it comes to negotiating and I dont get taken advantage of etc..

Cheers

Cars with "view by appointment" are probably home traders or people operating from a lock up or something, i.e. they don't have a large 'showroom' and would need notice so they can get the car out of the garage. Not necessarily a bad thing as their overheads would be lower than a plate glass Honda dealer. They are still bound by the sale of goods act etc.

How much do you know about cars? If not much do you know anyone who does who you could take along?

Hi mate, thanks for the resonse. I know quite a bit about cars and basic mechanics, how to spot problems etc so that side of it I dont really have much of a problem with its just the negotiating aspect, payment and log book procedures I have to go through which I have no idea about.

Thanks for clearing up the home traders issue though, that confused me slightly!

Cheers
