I had a biopsy of the lining of my womb last Wednesday (to investigate the reason for prolonged periods), and as a result have been bleeding quite heavily ever since (6 days)- it's just about tailing off now I think.

I went to see my GP about it yesterday, and everything is fine, he said it's common after a biopsy. He says it's unlikely to be an infection, but obviously to monitor things and go back if things get any worse or changes in any way.

But now I feel really zapped of energy and feel completely washed out due to the blood loss. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of anything I could take to help get my energy levels up?

Iron is usually recommended in blood loss and weakness.

Also you could take vit b12 complex :)

To absorb iron you need to ensure plenty of vitamin C. This site gives you some of the foods high in vitimin E together with menu suggestions http://www.mothers35plus.co.uk/iron.htm. Wish you a speedy recovery. Have you had a post-op follow-up yet? If you are really worried I'm sure you could call the hospital & someone would see you.

Eating Beans is good for absorbing Iron too I believe - or is it drinking a huge glass of Orange Juice (pure) with Beans that gives you iron?

I forget... I'm shattered.. just opened my new Iron tablets :o

Thanks adecor. It wasn't really an op as such- it all happened really quickly with no anaesthetic, with the gynaecologist inserting a long tube through my cervix into the womb, and removing a sample of the womb lining. Didn't really hurt that much.

But the thing is- she didn't bother to tell me anything about what to expect afterwards  so the bleeding was a bit of a surprise  . I had to do some research on the internet to see what was going on. I phoned NHS Direct on Saturday as the bleeding was heavy, and they told me to go and see my GP on Monday if I was still bleeding.

I'm not due to go back for a follow-up appointment until October (I assume if they find anything sinister from the biopsy they will let me know), but I do have to go again in a few weeks for a scan.

Thanks for the link to info on iron-rich foods. Yay!! Chocolate!!!
