Has this started recently? Have you changed anything recently - diet aswell as shampoo or conditioner? I have to wash my (coloured) hair every other day though usually by the second day it does start to look as though it needs doing (though not terrible). When I was younger I used to wash it once a week or so, so its definately changing!

do you condition the whole of your hair or just the ends? conditioner should only be used on the length of the hair and not the scalp. Herbal essences make quite a good shampoo for greasy hair. Also i know it sounds funny but washing up liquid is very good if you have greasy hair. Just use it like a normal shampoo and then condition the lengths afterwards as normal. Also try not to touch your hair too much through the day and wash your hair brush regularly

Hm, I have to wash my hair daily. About 18 hours after I wash it it starts to look awful. I've not found anything to help :( Even not conditioning at all doesn't help. And my scalp hurts... I wouldn't mind if I had long luxurious thick hair... :P

have you tried any of the head n shoulders type shampoos *or any of the shop brand same style ones*? avoid the 2 in 1s but i find that helps me when i'm having a greasy patch.

Just a thought, maybe if you went to boots or another highstreet shop and asked an assistant what is the best shampoo for greasy hair,I am sure they would only be too kind to help :)

Tresemme :) I find it is good for my hair, saying that though my hair is thick and It gets greasy about the 3rd day as I find I am scratching at my scalp and thats the time I need to wash it :)
also Palomive sorry about spelling, vosene is also good for my hair as it treats it well :) hope you find one that suits your hair :)
Katie :)
1. Use a mild shampoo, not one for greasy hair. The ones for greasy hair 'strip' oils from the scalp which irritates the scalp, making it produce more oil to compensate.
I swear by Philip Kingsley shampoo, mild or volumising, and I have greasy hair. It's expensive, but you can water it down by 50% so lasts for months. Never never use greasy hair formulations.
2. Never condition the whole head. As noted above, only the ends, and again, use a light conditioner.
As your hair is treated, use a 'hot-oil' treatment once a week/fortnight to keep the condition and gloss.
3. Buy Philip Kingsley scalp tonic. This balances out the skin and oil production without irritation. It is fab. I have a very sensitive scalp, and I can use this with no problems, and it really does work.

Not what you want to hear but the only solutions I have found are daily washing or a perm!
I've given up on various shampoos etc and accepted it - been like it for 27 years so it's unlikely to change now! It's a pain in the butt at times though, I know! It's when it comes to things like camping I get frustrated! That and the fact I can't just get out of bed last minute every now and again!
It's so bad I couldn't even pop to the shops in the morning and get some milk/paper/whatever before washing it!
A perm has always allowed me to go two days between washes though, but I prefer my hair straight.

I have reverted to the stuff of my childhood and use Vosene (the original one) it keeps my hair in great condition and it doesn't get lank and greasy. They aslo do quite a light conditioner if you need to use one. I have coloured hair too so I know it is fine to use.

Hiya
I get greasy hair and skin...I hate it! My hair is long and wavy and I try not to wash it everyday as its too much work. So generally on the second day my hair is put up.
Its always been like this apart from when I had bleached permed hair :) ( stop laughing) and when I was put through a psyedo menopause for a hormonal problem. So are the hormones in our body making it happen?...I think so or they certainly dont help.
I always try and shampoo my hair twice as well and give it a good massage and just condition the ends.

You can get dry shampoos that remove excess oil without the hassle of washing your hair. The only one I've used is Batiste - it's about £2 from Boots or Superdrug.

As I grew older I found my hair becoming more greasy. In my teenage years I washed my hair once a week, by the time I was thirty it was once per day!
Then, I went on a slimming diet for a few weeks and found my hair getting less greasy. It makes you wonder if greasy hair is a way of losing weight by excreting fat!

I have a similar problem but it's only the very front strands of my hair near my face that get greasy, and then it's only the roots. It makes the front strands of my hair separate from the rest. :(

Hi I have the same sort of problem and I work in a nasty fast food shop so don't think wearing a hat all day helps, My hair dresser suggested some stuff they had which was called 'clear' by clynol which worked but was a bit expensive at about £10 a bottle  , I've now got a Boots expert build up remover shampoo which is marvelous (i'm convinced its the same stuff for about three quid), I alternate between this and my normal shampoo.
I also have psoriasis on my scalp and the Boots Expert stuff doesn't seem to cause me any problems :o

I have the same problem, and unfortunetely I do have to wash my hair every day, not so bad, just wash while having shower.
If I don't do it every day feels greasy, and itchy.
I'm 31
I use shampoo and conditioner every day and normally ones for coloured hair on bogof anyway.

The Boots expert stuff is great.
I don't suffer from greasy hair, but got a sample of the expert shampoo in the tin that Boots had on offer a couple of months ago. (thanks Boots grabbit thread) :D
Anyway, the shampoo makes my hair feel squeaky clean.
I noticed today that there is a whole range of expert shampoos, the one I've tried is the build up removal

Mine is the same, have to wash it every day, plus my hair is fine too. Tried various shampoo's over the years, using Dove at the moment which is quite good.

I just found some Tressame at the back of the cupboard and washed my hair with both the shampoo and conditioner. It has made one hell of a difference. The front isn't separating from the rest of my hair now. :)
