Hi All,
My daughter and son flew to menorca today with their grandparents, quiet life for 10 days........until my daughter phoned to say that some medicine is missing from her luggage.
Its not life or death but she could really use it, they are trying to get a replacement as I type but I am wondering what is the best way to get this medicine to her as fast as possible if they cant get hold of any.
Thanks
Mike

Does she have a copy of the prescription with her? She could try going to a local doctor and having it dispensed there.

Quite a lot of prescription medicines can be bought over the counter in spain, my husband who has a heart condition forgot to take one of his tablets when we went to spain. We went into a medical centre they would do us a prescription but wanted the equivalent of £30 for the privilege. We decided to try the pharmacy first, and they sold us the medication, we had twice as many tablets than we normally get on prescription here and they only cost about £3, shows how we are being ripped of here. If you have the name of the medication and the dosage its worth a try.

This gets tiresome after a while. The prescription charge is a tax. It bears no resemblence to the cost of the medicine prescribed, nor the quantity. The average cost of medicines on prescription is about £10. If you think the system is unfair, write to your MP. If anyone wants to know roughly how much their medication costs the NHS then look at http://www.ppa.org.uk, click on drug tariff, and then on part VIII - basic prices of drugs product list. Not all drugs are there, but lots are.
