well I don't qualify on the fair & fat but I'm 40 (just!) - & I'm finding it harder to shift any weight
I eat pretty healthfully - fruit , veg, porridge made with water & home cooked meals, not a lot of processed food, only drink at weekends so below weekly average
after christmas my brother gave up alcohol & ate better & lost 2 stone
for 3 weeks I didn't drink, ate the same & walked to work & back 3-4 times a week (4 -5 miles per day)
In that 3 weeks I put on a 1lb, my muscle mass went up & my fat content went down
where am I going wrong & what should I be doing? - I'm 5'8" & 11.7 st
I eat better than my brother & it dropped off him!!
I want to get back to about 10.7 st but without having to go on a starvation diet because then I'm just mean to dh & kids!!

hi
i dont think you need to lose weight as i'm 5ft5 and my ideal weight is 10st 9 so maybe you just need to do maybe some toning work ask at your local gym they should be able to help you.
good luck

I'm a bit dubious about toning - would that bulk me up 'cos I don't want to put on any inches as I'm an awkward shape already - 16/18 (34E) on top & 14 on the bottom - I'm just fed up 'cos clothes are a nightmare to fit, I can't wear dresses or smock tops because I just look pregnant - I find you have more choice in clothes if you are smaller

your not an arkward shape at all sounds like your very curvy , it seems that the only reason your a 16/18 on the top is because of your bust size , maybe toning isnt the answer , have you tried a sliming club i go to weight watchers and they work of a points system its working for me i've lost 19lbs so far although i have loads to lose still.

if u do toning exercises or at a gym u should lose inches not gain them. for exampl....i started doing dumbbell exercises and lost inches off my bingowings... when i upped my gym work i actually gained weight but lost inches
btw i know how u feel i am a 34E too, getting bras is a pain isnt it lol, having said that i can usually fit into 12-14 tops
i wouldnt say u were overweight for your height so look at some toning work

You cant really alter your shape by very much, but if you have a look at Slimming World thread on this site it may help you i f you want to eat a healthy diet that can work well with a family. I too am the same as you a 34E but 14 bottom and 5`6"

Not really related I know but when I saw Fair, Fat and forty it rminded me of when I had my Gall Stones out. The doctor said it was usually Fair, Fat and Female that got gall stones.

& because of the boobs anything smocky or a tunic just make you look 6 months gone! - when I do lose weight it never comes off the boobs just the little bit off my tummy/hips & generally all over - I know it sounds daft sideways on I've got boobs & thats about it but front on I'm not so much fat as wide - does this make sense to anyone? - I'm quite broad shouldered which is why I can't get into anything smaller than a small16/large 14 at about 10st 13lb

Maybe you should try exercise that lengthens and tones the muscles if you don't want to bulk up - pilates, yoga, swimming or rowing maybe?

yes i know what u mean i am quite broad shouldered , when i lost weight my boobs were the last things to reduce for some reason, at one point i considered having them reduced lol
my upper body has been toned and tightened by using lightweights on the treadmill and doing various exercises with them eg rotating my arms (sorry dont know technical names)... it did make me lose inches all over when i stuck to it rigidly
give it a go for a couple months and see how it helps

I thought the same.
Yep said the same to my mum.
I am now worried as I am nearly 36 and I am fat and fair and my mum has had gall stones which she passed.
Better get and do something about it I suppose.
Yours
