Dodgy Gear Stick

The gear stick on my Focus has recently been playing up. When I push it over to 5th and reverse it springs back to the middle of neutral as it should but when over to 1st and 2nd it just stays there!

Does anyone know how much this could set me back?

have no experience with ford focus but it sounds like a spring has come off. open the bonnet and look at the gearbox housing. get someone to move the gearstick left and right and you will see what linkages are moving. hopefully you will find what is missing. if in doubt have a look at another focus and compare.

Hi southern scouser.

Your IB5 spring has gone - a common problem in the focus. I fixed mine myself in 15 minutes with no mechanical experience. The part is under £4 from a Ford garage.
