Seat Ibiza (VW Engine) Prob

Ok, so im having a problem with my 97 ibiza mk2, the engine ticks over but just wont start. Basically its seems to be because there is no spark in any of the plugs (which were replaced about 3 months ago), could this be because of the immobiliser? or an ECU prob maybe?

The car was working fine yesterday but ive just come to start it today and this has happened so no idea why. I've gone through the steps to reprogram the key to synchronize it to the central locking/immobiliser incase the problem was with the immobiliser staying on. But still no joy in getting it started! Im a bit stumped as to whether it could be the coil but i don't have another VAG car to swap it over to try it and i dont fancy paying £50+ for a new one just to find that it isnt the problem!

I telephoned an auto electrician who had no idea but said they could come visit me for a nice £40 call out fee :wall: so any ideas would be welcome, thanks.

before jumping to conclusions,
have you checked your battery in the car? sounds like a simple case of a dead battery. does the car start on a jump start?
if in doubt, and you can take your battery out, take it to your local halfords store and they can check your battery free off charge.

if the battery is cool, then you'l go onto considering whether or not the spark plugs are the problem, or if your ht leads-distributor cap and rotar arm are old(carbonised) or maybe the starter motor in the car.

Thanks for the reply but i've tried jump starting it and no joy. The dizzy cap and rotor arm are new (got them last month). I replaced the spark plugs about 2 months ago so i doubt it is them as at least one of them would spark anyway, they shouldn't all stop at once.

The battery isn't the best so im going to get a new one tomorrow so i will let you know, but i doubt this will sort the problem as there is still power getting to the coil etc... All i can seem to think of is either the immobiliser is stuck on (maybe due to a problem with the ECU?) or the coil has gone.

Any other ideas?

Turns out it was the coil in the end, all working now :)
