Fuel additives

Has anybody ever tried any of these fuel additives you see advertised on TV etc. e.g. Greased Lightning. Are they any good? Are they onlt for old cars or new cars?

I get the impression that, given the relatively low cost, if they were any good then petrol manufacturers would already be adding similar to their products .. why not?

From advice from my uncle (car mechanic), these additives are not worth it. But some can reduce the carbon emissions for a short period of time, usually it works for just enough miles to pass the MOT.

....it really depends, are you having any problems with your car such as it jerking when you accelerate?
helps spmetimes for this problem in particular,

or, do you want to use it just to keep your fuel system conditioned and clean?

to be honest, spending a tenner or so on some treatment will do no harm to your car providing you use the correct treatment.

The general concensus is that you're better off spending your money on regular oil changes.

have a 1996 mondeo diesel with 125K miles. started using millers diesel fuel additives from 25K onwards. Through all mot's it had low emmissions and still on original injectors. mind you good quality fuel have some additives in them. when i was in huddersfield i popped into the head office and bought a large 5 litre bottle which works out a lot cheaper than buying small bottles from halfrauds etc. they also cater for petrol engines
